Chapter 11 is really more of a protection step for them to allow them to reorganize. It may be a bit slow going, but they will be just fine. They have a great crew and a great business. They simply had alot of their eggs in the auto industry basket, and well... you get the point.

Brian,
How are you my friend?

I sure hope you're right. The question is, can they downsize effectively until demand comes back? I, like you, sure wouldn't like a world without CPM.

At this time Crucible has said that they will continue to make bladae steels. The major problem is that their valve steels, used for automotive, is in a slump due to the automotive slump and that is a big percentage of their business.

They will have to sort out their issues and reorganize for tough times.

Glad to hear from you on this matter Sal. I was pretty worried at first this morning. Did make me glad I just got my order from them though. I know the knife world would be a very different place without crucible. The more I read made me realize that they are a solid company that doesn't screw around and did their best to avoid this outcome. I'm not to worried anymore.

Well guess I'm required to buy a CPM D2 para now to show my support. Was looking for a good excuse to buy a knife this week.

Just in case you want to know, Lynnette at the factory outlet told me a few hours ago that the D2 Foliage green para is on sale at $99.99.
Thought you might be interested.

Really? When I checked the SFO website just now, it said it was $189.95 still. Maybe I missed the sale  I hope it does go on sale at $99. That would be very nice. :)

I´m as sure as taxes and death that they have it on sale at the SFO, just give 'em a call before they put it online and then it might just be too late.

Who else is doing the sort of research and innovation in knife steel metallurgy aside from Crucible and Hitachi?
I see in the Crucible time line linked from the posted story that they've only been looking at blade steels since 2004. It's sad to see any homegrown center for innovation cut short like this...

That is not good. I hope everything with Crucible will be OK, but in tough times companies often would drop low volume production and cut R&D, hopefully only temporary.
