Endura 3 Lightweight?

#1

Post by beachgun »

I picked up a Endura 3 from Spydieguys. The box is marked 11/3/03 and 'Lightweight' below it. I had it advertised when a gentleman asked if it was marked 'lightweight' on the handle. It isn't.

Did Spyderco mark lightweight on the the lightweight Enduras? Do I have a Endura with the wrong box, or is it just another variation?

Not a big deal, just curious.

I've never seen one marked "lightweight" on the handle. As far as I know, Spyderco uses that term to indicate FRN handle as opposed to stainless or liner and scale construction.
I don't believe in safe queens, only in pre-need replacements.

If tonydahose doesn't reply to this thread, shoot him a PM. He has just about every Endura in existance.

Here's my pair with the original boxes. Is this what you have?

There's a "BB" after the date. I know Spyderco uses coding for their dates but Mar02 would coincide with being CB so I'm thinking they may mean something else.

The FRN versions used to be referred to as leightweight models, as opposed to the SS models. I think that designation was lost with Gen4.

My box says C10SBK Endura 11/3/03, and Lightweight in small lettering below the date.

The label is yellow.

It is a all pinned construction, unlike the Endura 4 I have.

because it's a serrated blade (plain edge = white label,
SE / CE = yellow label).

go for the '98 model as compared to the '02 model.

ats-55 is more forgiving than vg-10 ;) Getting rid of the boye dent is just a bonus :p

I never should have traded the only Endura 3 I owned. The blade grind and splinter-picker tip look absolutely awesome in SpyHarpy's photos. I'm going to have to get another.
