Native Chief

I can't find the quote, but Sal said there might be a possibility of this design seeing daylight after the FRN Native 4 comes out.

Who's interested? Would you prefer hollow saber, or full flat grind?

Not to be a downer, but it's not for me. Besides the fact that a blade over 3.5 inches is illegal to conceal here in NE, it looks too much like a dagger for me to use as an EDC, and I doubt it would be as comfy for my hands as the regular sized native.

Best of luck to those who want it though :D

Tom,
Why do you need this knife, you got your custom. :D
FFG will make it more interesting for me. Still, I would prefer to see Caly4 with 3.5" long blade, but the same width.

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

How big is the Native Chief exactly? 4" blade? Would it be likely to have Native 4 construction?

Looks like an awesome knife that would be comfy to grip both using the choil and without it by gripping farther back.

I am torn on the grinds - I can't argue with full flat for performance, but I like the look of the hollow saber with swedge and I have no complaints about my Native's cutting abilities.

Same here. I'm a FFG fan, but I could definitely warm up to hollow saber on a 3.5-4" blade with a finger choil and no hump.

Agreed. The Native Chief caught my eye some time ago. I would be in.

FFG is boring. so last year. I would take that knife as is.

IF FFG is your thing then there are a whole bunch of other Spydies out there.

In general, I do not like the Native (yes--blasphemy for many, I know :p ). Natives are nice little knives but I far prefer other Spyderco models. This, on the other hand, looks like it would address what is one of the major shortcomings of the Native for my particular hand--the regular handle just does not feel "right" to my hand. The longer blade and swedge on this caught my eye immediately. With the hollow grind and swedge, I would definitely be interested. I'd love to play with the prototype on this one--it looks like it has some possibilities :D .

I like the Native but I have always wanted a little bit more blade length. This looks awesome and hopefully they keep it either S30V or VG-10. I would be ok with either grind but FFG is my favorite. Just please do not change the steels.

I have a Native III and I really don't like it. Don't get me wrong. Sitting on the desk it looks great but the handle does not fit my hand well and when I try to open it with the partially hidden spyder hole it feels very clumsy in my hand.

Blasphemy I know but I just haven't been able to warm up to it at all. Now the Chief, I would take it just as it is. What a beautiful knife.

I might be tempted to try this knife, but it would need a clip upgrade. I like the FRN Native, but don't love the bolt clip, other than the clip this knife sounds pretty cool. Also if it got made and people didn't like the original grind it would look sweet with an aftermarket FFG.

+1 for FFG
i've been looking for a lefty friendly larger knife for awhile (manix is a tad too big for my hands.. :p ). love the feel of the native! but im too loyal to my g-10, so havent opted for the FRN native (although i do absolutely love the feel) :D

my one really big hope.. is to not have an obscured hole :) if so, sign me up :D

I would rather have the same native I have just with G10. Hollow grind, full flat, it really doesn't matter to me for a native. I like a little extra steel on a knife, I feel confident that it will be fine during and after I beat the crap out of it.
War is mostly waiting.
