Should I wait for the Black G10 Endura or...

#1

Post by uncle edge »

bite the bullet and get the current foliage green G10?

Really, is it possible the black G10 version could never happen?

I really like the Endura4, in fact, its one of my favorite folders. I`m kinda old fashioned, really like black G10 handles on all my folders, so getting the green handle version for me would be  ? But I gotta admit, it looks really nice. :D

Its really between that or a black Military so please help me decide for my next purchase.

Cheers,
Dave

... but the ZDP is not FFG, the green G-10 is :)

I would suggest to buy the FG G-10 Endura and give it a serious try. I'm almost 100% sure you will like it and keep it as it is. If you can't stand the color at all after a few weeks, send it to STR or someone else you trust and let them make black G-10 handle slabs for it. That way, it will cost you a little more, but you will have a very special custom Endura!

The Millie is a totally different animal. It is quite a bit bigger to begin with and it doesn't end with a liner instead of a back lock.... Very nice knife, but if you want an Endura.... get it! (...first ;) )

Definitely get the FG G10 Endura. The FFG is amazing and the foliage green is a very versatile color that blends in well and just says work knife to me. Plus, when it's in your hand slicing up stuff, you won't notice the color much. It's a really high quality piece.

I did think of trying to put black slabs on myself, but I fear my skills would ruin an otherwise nice knife.

If I didn`t like the design so much, I would have bought the military already, but really, I`m an Endura man 1st and foremost. So we`ll give her a shot.

Of course a Military will soon follow, then the Police3 for no good reason other than why not ;) (**** pictures on this forum are cash killers)

While its true that an FFG is nice, I really wanted ZDP steel. I might get it ground down. I worked at a machine shop through college. They are about an hour down the road. I might get sick of the saber grind, head on over and grind it flat. But I kind of like the saber grind, it makes a better hard work knife, but we will see.

When I finally get to making the scales, I will post up a picture.

Well I ended up going with the Military PE S30V black G10 standard production model. I just couldn`t get on board with the green G10 on the Endura4. And I fear my wait could prove an impossible mission. I hear no talk of a black G10 version in the future, so bummer on that wish.

I did however add to my "0" Spydie count  to keep the Military company. Got most of these off the bay this week so hopefully by weeks end, I`ll have a mini collection of nice users.

Received: Endura4 PE SS, Ladybug3 PE SS
Enroute: Military PE S30V (oh`yeah), Endura4 PE blk FRN, Pacific Salt PE blk FRN, Native I PE, Ladybug3 Orange, Ladybug3 SE SS, and Ladybug3 blk frn PE & SE. :spyder:

The Native II SS is at top of my list right now, but my search has led me to believe that I may never own one. The hunt continues...

Umm, get the FG FFG Endura, please stop debating over colors. Seriously, if you are a hardcore Endura fan the FG scales won't deter you from buying a knife that cuts like a VG-10 laser...

Well it DID deter me, and even as an Endura fan, the Police3 is higher up on the list mainly because of the scale color. There is no wrong or right, it`s all about what you like. :D

For a few more bucks, the black Millie will have better steel and a slightly bigger blade. At the current Endura G10 price, as much as I like Enduras, I don't think it is a match for a Millie. Both have FFG blades and G10 handles, but the similarity stops there.

I'm with you in the sense that it is taking me a while to warm up to the foliage green G-10. I've made a commitment with myself to not judge it unfairly until I get one for myself. I'm thinking the Delica or maybe the Khukuri.

Enjoy your new Military!

Very true. The caveat here is that a black G-10 version may never be made. General rule is, new versions only happen if the existing one sells well. Hard to say whether the FG G-10 Endura is "hot" enough to warrant one.

Congrats on the Millie, it is an all time classic design for good reason. My Police 3 is like a longer bladed Endura G-10 with black handles and a choil for choking up, keeping the 3mm blade thickness of the Endura instead of the 4mm of the Millie. One of my Millies has FG handles because it is the CPM D2 version, and I think it was the first of the current line up to come out in FG, and I personally like the color though I bought that knife for the steel. Millie, FFG Endura, Police 3, they are all excellent knives that are winners for you as they are all are great cutters. You could have also did like myself and many others by getting a ZDP-189 Endura in FRN and having Tom Krein FFG it to a .010" thick edge for great cutting ability and ease of sharpening.
