I have a definite preference for wire clips for all the reasons already stated.

I was going to say why I like the wire clip better but it has already been covered :) The flexibility is biggest too me.

Buzzbait wrote:The wire clip doesn't snag, doesn't get bent, doesn't have paint chipping off, and rides nice and low. It's a no-brainer to me.

So what's the general consensus for which clip is stronger?? I'm growing a little tired of frequently having to bend my Para's clip back into shape, as I know each time I have to do this the clip will become a little weaker. I Will have to order a replacement soon just in case. And FWIW I haven't run into this clip problem with any other folder before.

Any clip will do for me, i just have to have one. They are important in the indexing of the knife for me as they add just a little more tactile response in how and what position i have the knife in.

Sounds like you're in the same boat as me. I'm baffled as to why it is only Spyderco's standard clips that give me problems. I've never had a Benchmade or a Camillus or any other brand clip bend on me like a Spyderco. For what it's worth, I've had absolutely no problems with the Spyderco wire clip.

For me,right hand/tip up, poke my thumb in the pocket and it finds the spyder hole, pull with fingers cupped around outside of pocket, feel-hear pocket top hem clear the clip(soft click), finger tips curl down against handle between clip and blade as thumb sweeps knife open. My thumb is in the hole from inside the pocket, to until after the lock up. Takes about one Mississippi. This is with original solid style clip.

What do you catch your clips on to bend them?

Wow guys.. this has been an interesting read. It would be fun to hear more of our martial experts, KaliGman, Doc Snubnose, and all of you who train with knives. how do you guys "rate" the clips, or is there any real differences?

And again, this is no means a thread to say which clip is the best, just to ask opinions about the functionality. Good anwers so far. :)

I like the standard clip. Compared to the wire clip. The clip I like the most is the one that's on my older Delica. It's the frn type. Never had a problem with it. It does not scratch wood like the metal clips do. I have tried the standard and wire clips but for all around use I'll take the frn clip everytime. :spyder: My newer Delica is still in it's box along with the standard clip on it. It'll stay there as long as I have my older Delica.

While I have only recently decided that I like the wire clip (especially the low-rider) better, there is still an advantage to the solid style. Since the solid clips have the :spyder: logo engraved on them, it makes it easier to identify as a Spyderco knife. In fact, that is how I met forum member ront.

I was at work one day (I had transferred from another site about a month earlier) and noticed a shiny gleam from the pocket of my coworker Ron. Upon closer inspection, I could see the telltale :spyder: on the clip. We were already friends due to our similar interest in photography, but we had never discussed knives before. Only because of the :spyder: on the clip did I discover that I had been working with a fellow forum member for a whole month without knowing it.

So while I do love the solid clip's ability to easily identify its maker, after using a wire clip for the last couple months I have to say I prefer the stealthiness of the hardly-there profile and the deep carry option.

In terms of functionality, I really don't have much preference. I just like the look of the Wireclip better; it's so refined and smooth. Especially for knives like the Caly3, it just fits.

The Deacon wrote:Well, as someone who normally removes clip from any knife I intend to carry, I prefer the "three screw" flat clip as long as it is not accompanied by a trough in the handle, as on the Kopa. Screw holes, if they annoy me sufficiently, are easy enough to fill. Wire clips, on the other hand, leave two unsightly channels in each side of the handle when removed. In addition most, if not all, of the models equipped with them lack a lanyard hole, a feature I do occasionally use. Finally, on the rare occasions I use a clip, I want it mounted for tip down carry and, as yet, Spyderco has not seen fit to make the pivot bolt do double duty as a clip mount, so all wire clip equipped models are tip up only.

This thread needs a poll attached. Somebody...?

I prefer a wire clip but I can not imagine some of my knives with a wire clip. The worst and best of all my knives is the steely looking clip on the ATR and Lil'Temperence. The Lil'Temp has the most functional clip ever but it is high profile and just shreds my pants pocket. My acual favorite clip was and will always be the integral FRN clip on the earlier Delicas and Enduras. Those clips never survived so they are at -0 on my list. I vote wire. We need a poll attached to this thread.

I vote wire with exceptions.
Not really all that slick ;)

I prefer the three screw metal clip(CLASSIC CLIP). The longer the better.
This clip is the most practical(4-way clip).

The solid barrel bolt with lanyard hole is second best(2-way clip).

Least liked is the wire clip(2-way clip-no lanyard hole).
The Meercat wire clip is so short the knife flips out of pocket.
My wife thinks the wire clip on T-Mag takes away from the good looks of the knife.
To her, it looks like a heavy-duty paper clip.
