S. Michigan Spyderco Dealers

Does anyone know of any good Spyderco dealers in Southern Michigan? I'm looking for dealers that carry a number of models in stock



I've been to a few who I found through the "Find a Dealer" function on this site and have been dissappointed. They've had only one or two knives in stock (or none).

I don't know of many dealers at all that have more than a few models that don't have a website. It's much easier to find the knife you want online, but you would be buying sight unseen. If you're trying to test out knives to see which one fits you, the return shipping can get expensive on online orders <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>. The store I bought my first Spydie from had, in addition to some buck, colt, and case knives, an FRN Native, FRN Dragonfly, Remote Release, and possibly an Endura or Delica. Most dealers don't cater to the spydie fan, just to the everyday knife buyer who wants a decent selection of many brands of knives.

I know what you mean! Most dealers will carry 60 different Case folders and maybe 1 Spyderco - usually a Delica or Endura. Since I already have those two, most other models I've purchased over the internet and hoped for the best. I must admit I haven't been disappointed yet but I would like to "try on" a couple of models first before purchasing.

4 s ter- If you're close, give Cabela's in Dundee a try. They don't have that overly large a selection, but they do have a little better than some, maybe 5 or 6 models.

Where are you starting from? I know one or two in northern Ohio which are fairly well stocked.

Thanks for the suggestion! I was in Cabela's in Dundee last summer and they only had SS Natives in stock. I'm going to be in the Detroit area in a week and I'll give it another try. Hopefully I'll have better luck this time.

I live in Ontario, right across the border from the eastern end of Michigan's Upper Penninsla - Spyderco dealers are kinda scarce up here!

Hmmm, Detroit area.....

If you come down to Fort Wayne, (IN), there is a pretty large Spyderco dealer at the Glennbrook Square mall. He is the only dealer within 50 miles of Northeastern Indiana. The next available dealer is in Mishawalka, over by South Bend. I know that's a looong haul from Detroit, but you never know what might entail in the quest for true happiness.....<img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Folks,

I realize how lucky I am after reading this. My local shop generally has at least a couple of virtually every current model in stock at any given time, as well as quite a few of the discontinued knives. I frequently go by just to handle a few different ones to see what appeals to me, and sometimes just to stand and gaze at the shelves as they are all laid out in neat little rows.

In addition to Spyderco they handle CRKT, Cold Steel, Benchmade, and a few others. Their Spyderco inventory is by far the largest part of their display and I seldom seem to get past it to look at others anymore.

The dealer listed here when I did a search for my zip code only had three models in stock, but branches all over Virginia had others so he could get them for me pretty fast.

I asked him why they had so little in stock and he said interest was lost for them.He said they were cool when they first got them but now everyone had the ones he had.


But like mentioned before, there is always the trusty internet <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> <img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Jeff/1911 - yes you are lucky! I found a hardware store in Mackinaw City, Michigan that carried Spydies but the last time I was there they only had two FRN Jess Horns (I bought 1). They said that Case and CRKT were now their biggest sellers. I guess most people are much more concerned with $$ instead of quality.

Anybody finding a well-stocked shop selling <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>s at less than MSRP is extremely lucky. 2 shops in town carry Spyders. One has 3 models, but is reasonably priced. The other has a large selection of current models, but is at or above MSRP on them all.

In Grand Rapids MC Sporting Goods on 28th st. across from Woodland Mall has several types of spydies but by no means a complete selection. Knife shops are kind of sparce over here (usually hardware stores or sporting goods/kmart).

I did stop into the Knife Trader in Lansing over March Break. They had 18 - 20 Spyderco models in stock. Most were the ones you would expect - Delica, Endura, Cricket. However there were also a couple of new models and I ended up buying a Blue Lum Chinese Folder. The price - very comparable to the online dealers (cheaper than most since I didn't have to pay shipping). I also picked up a 204 Sharpmaker and have been playing with that ever since.

For anyone who has that chance, the Knife Trader is worth a look.
