Talk me into or out of a Superhawk

#1

Post by DMgangl »

I am a huge fan of the SE and carry both my Tasman SE and E4 SE at work all the time. I have a Harpy and Police 3 both SE for when I am not at work and have to dress nice. (By the way I have a something to show you Harpy and Endura fans when I get home.) I feel my collection needs a PE full flat ground blade for weekend carry. I am finding that when I am not at work most of the cutting jobs require a PE blade. Cardboard being the main thing that makes me want a FFG PE blade.
I was looking at getting an E4 G10 or a Police 3. I have 3 Enduras in my collection already and I really like the Police 3 SE I got for Christmas. But for some reason I keep wanting the Superhawk.
I know both the E4 and Police are little more then $100. This is already at the limit of my budget for what I can pay for a knife and still feel ok about using. The $200+ price tag on the Superhawk is what is making me have second thoughts. From the looks and reviews I am confident that I will like the knife but if something were to happen to it, I doubt I would be able to easily replace it.
So is it really worth it or should I just buy the E4 G10 and be on my way.

IF you've already developed an intense liking for Hawkbill Blades as it appears you have judging from your post >> Then I say go ahead and take the plunge.

The Superhawk simply is taking the bent blade to a completely higher level. You will essentially be moving up from a Ford Taurus to a Jaguar V-12.

Just like a Z-28 is considered a "muscle car" the Superhawk is truly a "muscle blade".

I'll even stick my neck out on this one. If you don't like it I'll buy it from you. I'm that confident. Reading many of your posts you've impressed me as a true Hawkbill fan. Now it's time to go to the championship round.
Long Live the SPYDEREDGE Spyderco Hawkbills RULE!!

The Superhawk is awesome. It would be perfect if it had a solid clip.

If you are a reeealy big fan of the Endura then the G-10 E4 might be a better choice, otherwise the Superhawk is unlike anything else and you won't regret getting one.
Since you already have your work knives all lined up it should be fairly safe to use the Superhawk on weekends. Just make sure to carry a work knife at the same time, then you'll have something to use when you don't want to beat up the 'Hawk.

Says he wants pics?

If you want to be talked into or out of a superhawk, how about you buy one and play with for a bit, then send it to me. :D (sort of a two-for-one special)
Follow the mushin, but pay it no heed.

I'm right handed, how hard is it to close one handed?

Thanks for the response.

No it's not hard to close one handed. Just a little more difficult than other types of closings. MOO. I figure that once I get used to it, it will be just as easy, But that will take some time.

It's easier for me to close one-handed with my left hand. I consider the compression lock to be left-handed; at least the way :spyder: normally implements it.

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.

I am already on my second Superhawk. I think it is an excellent knife, especially when it comes to grip security and an ability to both slice and stab effectively. A bit thicker in the pocket, but quite light.
