Let's get his thread back to the top...

Any more news on this knife?

Deacon, have you had a chance to put the knife through its paces?

That I like and no offense to Sal or Spyderco but its about time. Frame locks and good ones have been sorely lacking from the Spyderco line IMO. Now do that to the Military and watch what happens.

Great looking knife but I dislike any knife requiring me to put a body part into the blade path to close it.

Where oh where are the compression locks I crave?

I get the Sage concept but prefer my Spydeco designed knives.

Kudos to Sydeco but I'll stick to my favorite knife configurations.

I am glad to see all the positive feed back but it is just not my cuppo'...
Not really all that slick ;)

Looks like an excellent knife, I'm quite excited about this one. Will be saving pennies for this one. Haven't gotten a folder in a while, been busy with custom fixed blades lately. This one is great, but a *lefty* version would be even better. Hopefully there is a run of lefties.

Crap, seeing that last pic just makes me want a Native 4.

The new Sage does look like a real winner though.

I like it! It looks great. I wonder if it will have the superb fit-and-finish of the Reeve Sebenza bloodline... That would be awesome, and it's not too much to expect of a Spyderco.

I would like to know about the lock: does it use a ball-bearing detent, or a milled tang? (I dislike ball-bearing detents.)

Jeffrey, I didn't take the Sage RIL apart so I can't say for sure. However, based on the lack of a cut in the tang in any of the photos I took of it, I'd say it has to be a ball detent. I'd also have to wonder if it would even be a Reeve Integral Lock without one since that's the system CRK uses. I'll admit I don't pay a lot of attention to handed locks, but I can't recall ever seeing a milled tang on a "conventional" frame or liner lock, only on Spyderco compression locks.

As for the other, considering it uses the exact same materials, in roughly the same quantity, as a small Sebenza but will cost about 1/3 as much "on the street" perhaps asking for absolute parity in the fit and finish department is too much to expect. That said, I was very impressed by the fit and finish of the Sage.

Well, it weighed 98 grams on my scale. Unless something changes on the production version, based on the differences between my scale's numbers and the "published" weights of a few other models, you can probably subtract a gram from that.

Thank you, Deacon

98 Grams = About 3.45 Ounces

For comparison: The CF Walker Sage weighs about 3.2 Ounces

Thanks again

Sounds right. My scale shows the Walker lock Sage at 92 grams, 3 3/8 ounces.
