A.T.R.'s clip conundrum...

#1

Post by Episteme »

I have a black SS A.T.R. (At-The-Ready), and it is one of my favorite carry pieces. However, I am reluctant to wear it as often as I'd like to due to the CLIP.
The clip holds the knife too securely in the pocket such that on the draw, one ussually ends up pulling up the trousers instead of drawing the knife. I have slightly bent the clip to alleviate this problem, but it still persists. It's worrisome mostly due to the happenstance that I would need to get the knife I quickly and fumble-free; something that will be slowed down due to the high drag from the clip.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem? I know the ATR is a favorite of some here on the forums, and I'd like to hear about how you guys (and girls) deal with the ATR's overly ambitious clip.

Many thanks,
Mike

There are several options,

You can bend the clip to make it less "clipy?" Just wedge something between the clip and the frame, and lift up; bending the clip upward. A few bends and it should make the clip looser.

You can replace the clip;

I just checked, and the Clip from a Cricket fits the ATR.
Only 2 of the screw will fit.

I am sure that other clips of the same design will fit as well, Like from a Police or Lava.
I think the Clip from a Benchmade Griptilian will also fit.
You will need a T-6 Torx bit to remove the screws

Or,
STR can make you a custom Titanium clip to your liking.
I think the going rate is $30 plus shipping

Many thanks for the suggestions.
I'll experiment.

I've always really liked the unique appearance of the ATR's clip (the knife is one of Sal's best designs), but you're right, it does hold very securely...

DON'T BEND THE CLIP

If you bend the clip there is a high chance of it braking. I took STR's advise and that's exactly what took place. He felt bad that after listening to his advise the clip broke so he made me a new one free of charge :D .

I would suggest talk to STR into making you a new clip
