Endura parts kit?

#1

Post by DMgangl »

I have an Endura 4 SS handle. I have had it for about 4 years and it has gotten very lose at the blade. To the point that if I put a little force on the blade when closing it the blade rubs against the handle and scratches it.
I want to have the handle replaced with the light weight parts kit. That way I can tighten the torx screw on the blade. Also I use this knife a lot at work and get coolant on my hands and its hard to get a good grip on the handle.

This is the first spyderco that I bought for myself, and don't want to just replace it with another Endura.

The parts kit is made for the FRN handled version only. I would send it back to Spyderco to see if they can fix it up for you. If not, I think short of having the knife rebuilt by a custom maker, you may be out of luck.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

Why not buy an FRN endura and just keep your SS one as a keepsake of your first :spyder: ? The spare parts kit only comes with the steel liners, washers and screws, not the handle, plus the SS enduras can't be taken apart unless you drill out the rivets/pins.

You can always put it in a vise (wrapped in a cloth to avoid scratches) and tighten it carefully, beginning with very little pressure and increase pressure after checking the blade play each time. You should end up with much less play (and take your time , check after each cycle with just a little higher pressure - haste makes waste here!)

Thanks Murdoc, that was my second option, and just buy some skateboard grip tape for the handles.

I figured it was worth a shot though.

Scratches will go away with 250-400 grit sanding paper and 10 minutes worth of elbow grease. Just lay the sanding paper on a flat surface like a mirror or a REALLY flat table and move the knife back and forth on it with moderate pressure. I just sanded my H1 Mariner to like new condtion without problems like that; the knife really does look "LNIB" :) after this treatment.

The only problem is that the first "new" scratches reapperar way too early when carrying it :D

Yea thats the problem. I hit it with a piece of scotch-brite about once a month. But if I'm not paying attention and put my keys in the same pocket as my Endura. Presto the scratches are back. I'm just gonna put some grip tape over it. I thought about having it polished up at work, but I don't believe in safe queens and only buy things that I will use. So having a pretty knife isn't for me.
