looks good... didn't realize it would be a FF grind. Need to see the street price though... looks a lot higher than a comparable knife like the CF Sage.

Have had the pleasure of playing with one for the past week.

More photos and commentary in this thread.

Figure the US street price will be around $165 - $170.

$160-$170 is entering Stretch 2 prices, and more than the ZDP Caly 3. What gives?

And it's VG-10 not ZDP.

Nothing wrong with VG-10. I prefer it over ZDP or S30V. I just wish they would hurry up and release it already!!!
It's better to have knife and not need it than to need a knife and not have it.

I think it can be hard to make direct comparisons of price just based on materials from one model to another.

The ZDP Caly 3 was same blade style and same handle configuration as the regular Caly 3, but with different and more high end materials.

The Native 4 is the next generation of a model with different handle, different clip setup, and different blade grind. I'd guess the changes in tooling and production to accommodate that would play a part in the price. This is all potentially in addition to the uptick that comes from using CF in place of the old FRN.

Well MSRP is $50 less than the Stretch II. As for the difference between it and the Caly 3, that may just be the effect of higher prices for both materials and labor at the time the contract was signed. I don't have the slightest idea how many "batches" a given contract covers, but I don't think it's safe to assume the next runs of any given model will be priced the same as the last run.

It's been quite a few years since I've posted here as Leroys_45, so I just started a new account. The Native 4 is one of the main reasons I've taken a new interest in buying knives. I've been quite happy over the past 6 or so years just using my 440V Military and Rhino Lil' Temp. But considering what I've spent in the past 3 weeks, I'd say I'm back.

I fell in love with the Native about 1998 or so, a PS Gin-1 model. I later bought one of the blue G-10 BF Natives and only sold it when I committed to carrying tip-down knives for commonality's sake. Shortly thereafter, I was really only using full flat ground blades. When I caught wind that there was going to be a full flat ground, 4-way clip Native, I got on a pre-order list ASAP. I didn't know there was going to be a FRN version in the works, but I figured that if I wanted to see a cheaper version that I ought to do my part and make the first one successful. That and it looks classy, just perfect for Sunday!

Recently I've bought quite a few Spyderco's and a couple of Byrd's and I'm glad I've come back. I can't wait for the Native 4 that I have on order and really look forward to the more economical version sometime in the future.

The Native 4 looks very nice, and I do love Carbon Fiber. But the price is...well, it's priced out of my reach for the time being.

I'm sure Sal realizes that the price on this one will put it out of reach of some and make it less appealing to others. Am also confident he as reasonable expectations as to how many units he hopes to sell. The good news is that, assuming those expectations are met, an FRN version will follow. Of course, when that one hits the catalog, some will bemoan the fact it's not G-10. Truth is, no matter which direction he jumps with any new model or variant, there will be some who, for one reason or another, will not purchase it.

We can be a picky bunch concerning our passion for Spyderco . Jury is out for me with the Native , the new Stretch II just feels so good for me as an EDC . An FRN version would be closer to my Native collection , steel and price not a big issue , just not sure if I would give this knife much time in my pocket . Regards MG2

Judging from the materials that went into this Native, I'd say it's monetarily worth the price (in addition to being my favorite Spyderco design). I don't believe Spyderco "overpriced" the knife for what it actually is. It's just that given our current economy, people are finding it diffucult to splurge as often.
