How does the "Salt" line of knives do?

#1

Post by Fred Sanford »

I ask because I hope they do very well. I think they are some of the best knives made. As of late I have been using a Spyderco Salt 1 (PE black handle) and it's just awesome. No-nonsense, just works, and requires almost ZERO maintenance. You would think these knives would be great sellers.

I don't expect Spyderco to divulge insider information but I just wonder if anyone knows how well they sell? I would hate for any of the Salt models to be discontinued at the end of this year (I don't think they will be but....just hoping).

I have owned 4 Salt 1's in PE and SE and yellow and black, an Atlantic Salt SE, a Pacific Salt SE. All of them have been flawless. Perfect lockup. Perfect QC altogether. What great knives. I just like that I don't have to worry about them.

After using my hollow saber ground Salt 1 PE I really would never go back to a Delica 4. It's like the best of both worlds to me. I've used an SE Salt 1 for quite some time and I figured it was time to get out the PE version and use it and see how well I can "work harden" it over the next few months.

Needless to say with finances cracking down (life insurance, Christmas coming up, saving up for lots of other stuff, etc...) The "using a UKPK for 6 months thing" went down the tubes. I'll come back to that later in another thread. ;)

Gonna go sit down on the couch for a bit and drink some Blue Moon "Harvest Moon" pumpkin ale. Mmmm... good.

So what do you peeps think? Good knives....good sellers?

I have been looking at a salt 1 for a good long hard time. the "rust-proof delica" seems like it would be just perfect for super dirty jobs.

There have been several additions to the Salt line so I would think that they must be doing good for Spyderco. Sal has also mentioned possibilities of additional models(H1 Ladybug IIRC, Hatchet) in the near future. Somebody here mentioned an H1 Native recently- would seem like a good bet in my book. H1 does best in FRN which makes me happy- I love the lower cost, made to be used, ever dependable FRN models.

I also have been thinking & wondering about the Salt line, I was hoping it was the perfect combo. I am pretty tough on the knives, and although not subjecting them to salt water, water and muck none the less. I often don't have the time to sit and sharpen the knives as they should be, so I am concerned with how durable the edge is with the H-1. From what I have read, people seem to like them very well.
learning it the hard way...

I just have a Saver Salt, I want to get a Pacific Salt 1 though. Very good knives though, I love them.

I love my SE Tasman and PE Pacific. My EDC rotation would not be complete without them.

I would love to see some Salt Waves. What do y'all think?

I spend part of every day in salt water. I always have a Salt 1 or a Tasman with me.

I have a Tasman Salt/SE and it's doing fine. Mine's been thru a LOT of cardboard. Blades a little scratched up, but otherwise...... I think I've touched it up only once. I recently gave away my Rescue 93mm and thinking of replacing it with one of the Salts. I was going to actually buy it today, but danged if a Sage didn't get there first :)

Gave my wife an Aqua Salt SE to be used for gardening, cleaning produce, etc. Hose it off when finished and throw it back in the shed for next time. So far so good.

I purchased a salt 1 yellow SE from David a few months ago and love it. I have since sold my PE and purchased three more SE. Thanks David for turning me on to this bad boy. My EDC is now my salt 1,
