Fishing knife?

#1

Post by urbnspyd »

Hello Everyone,

I'm looking for a (freshwater) fishing knife. One of the Salt's in particular, but I don't know which one. I like the corrosion resistant steel, but I am concerned about the edge, although I have read that it gets better with use/sharpening. But aside from cutting fishing line and rope has anyone used one to clean 1-3 pound fish (no fileting)? I would imagine a PE over a SE would be better for this task. Over the years, I've had one knife for this, one knife for that, I'm looking for an "all in one" fishing EDC. Any thoughts? Pics on different Salt's would be appreciated too, either here or in the Picture Gallery. Thank's.

For this use, I would highly recommend the PE Pacific.
Its size allows precise cuttings, and hard use.

It would be a perfect all in one knife for fishing job, IMHO ;)

If you want a fixed blade, there's always the Aqua Salt. H-1 steel and easy to clean. :) Check out Clovisc's excellent reviews on this interesting blade:

And another with pics:

No worries. If you want a folder, then I agree with Raggasonic: PE Pacific Salt. :)

:) I've used a salt 1 pe to clean some (saltwater) fish... works fine, and the good thing is you can easily drop it in the dishwasher after the cleaning.

So, I'd say go for it !

I second the suggestion on the Aqua Salt; no mechanism to get clogged with scales and guts and such.

If you want a folder, then I'd definitely vote for a PE Pacific. I really like mine.

i carry a pacific salt all of the time when fishing, handles all kinds of cutting chores with ease. I have the SE, but i have used it to clean both bass and trout on several occasions. I've found that if i concentrate on not getting into the serrations, and just using the plain tip, it opens the fish up without slicing into the guts too much. I also usually have my tasman with me, but i have yet to use it for fish cleaning. it does come in handy for cutting line and rope, etc. after having a few "close calls" with my knives trying to swim while kayaking, i would recommend the yellow handles and a lanyard. both of which i will be investing in in the near future. If only they floated somehow....

Thank's Everyone, aprreciate all the input. I going with the pacific salt! It's nice to hear from people that actually own the knife, you don't get that from reading the specs. online. Thank's again.
