Orange County Choppers And Spyderco?

#1

Post by MANIXWORLD »

Dontknow how many of you guys are fans of the show American Chopper/Paul Teutel- on Discovery channel, but i was wondering if Spyderco would ever, have a custom chopper/bike made for the company, that represents the best knife company in the world? IMO...
i can already imagine the design that could go into a project like this. anyway just a thought.
i love their custom designs, they like using alot of webbing in their chopper designs.

Well, they both share the spider web theme, I guess I could see it working. It would be great if Sal designed the entire bike "in the dark" to be pure function.
Ask me where I got my awesome SUPERHAWK!

More like Mid-Cal now

Probably too much money to do. One **** of a great idea to get mass media exposure. If OCC would do the project for a gift of free knives for all it might work.

We should all email the show and tell OCC how cool it would be to showcase a true American Success Story.
Not really all that slick ;)

Depending on which way they went, that could be a very dangerous motorcycle.

i saw the other orange county choppers knife they made called the Spider (i think) and it looked like another piece of crap to me, that being said though if Spyderco ever came together with them im sure Spyderco wouldnt let them make another piece of crap with their name on it.

I think the crew at Spyderco are doing just fine... the are one of the few companies that remain 'gimmick' free in their marketing ploy, much of which is word of mouth.

They make knives, good knives, at a good price... its a winning formula.

True that bro,i just like to see Spyderco get even more exposure, cause their the Best.IMO.
i want the next NKP to know which knife/knives i carry, and that it symbolises pride and respect.
alot of people respect the whole chopper/bike way of life, and there are also the folks who frown upon it,because it looks 'scary'and maybe dangerous what the above do and represent.
almost reminds me of how some folks are towards knives.

While I find the show amusing at times, and some of the bikes are creative, most of them are a little short on 'engineering.' Plus, the tone of the show is mostly about get-in-the-face arguing and conflict. It's just not what Spyderco is all about, at least to me anyway.

its not that bad, looks like the usual mumbo jumbo you can encounter in any work situation, specialy family business-no where close to the mafia.. LOL-imagine that.. yeah i find the show amusing at times also, but there's got to be the whole package, tears, beers and cheers,so more people watch the show, after all we are all human or not?

A chopper is not about function. A chopper does give the illusion of "high speed, low drag" but reality is far different. When I watch OCC I see "heavy metal". There might be a way to spin it.

I agree completely. When they started, they had somebody else make the frames and they would just bolt stuff on and make it look good. They have gotten better at making frames, but most of what they do would look exactly the same if it wasn't for the paint and bodywork.

Personally, I think Indian Larry and Billy Lane are more skilled in building the actual workings of the bike as well as making them look great. Indian Larry once built a bike frame out of log chain, and Billy Lane makes bikes with no rear axle or spokes; just one huge hole right through the middle of the rear rim.

I was watching a recently new episode where they were building a one-off cutsom model based on their "spider" bike. When paul jr and the computer/CAD guy were talking, the CAD guy said "lets do the _____ in black and chrome, kindof like the way my pocket knife looks". He showed Paul Jr a black spyderco delica.
