Millie or Captain?
Millie or Captain?
Hello,
I'm new to the board and also to Spyderco blades. I've been debating to either get a Captain or Military. Can anyone suggest what one would be a better pick?
Thanx,
AZ21

millie...hands down, i have 2 of them and had a captain but traded it. i am not saying it is bad just unique and not to my liking. the only downfall of the military is its only tip down clip...if you carry your knives that way you are all set..if not you can get STR to switch it out for you.

Milli. Definitely Milli.
I'd say get the Milli and a Boker MType. If you like the blunt, wide, and recurve of the MType, you'll probably like the Captain and would feel better about dropping the cash on one if you decide to get one.
... and have three great knives. :)

I'll add my vote for the Mili. While the Captain is a great design with a lot of thoughtful details, the Mili is much easier to just pick up and go with.
And with the Mili you have the most handle/steel option of any Spyderco knife I can think of (though some are hard to find, they are out there)
You'll find G-10 (black & foliage green) AWA carbon fiber scales and blades in S30V, S90V, BG-42, D2, ATS-34... I'm sure there are things I'm forgetting.... Nice to have the options and, honestly, they are ALL great.
And welcome!

It has been made in black G-10 with ATS-34, CPM 440V, and CPM S30V. It has been made in Foliage Green G-10 with CPM D2. And it has been made in Peel-Ply Carbon Fiber with S30V, BG-42 and S90V. Now it is coming out in Digital Camoflage G-10 with S30V, although they are not widely available yet. Regular production is black G-10/S30V, the rest are either discontinued or Sprint Runs (only a certain number were made). Depending on which variation you decide on, dealers may or may not have them. Current production are available all over, including New Graham (everbody's favorite pharmacy). I've bought most of mine on eBay with no troubles.

It is only illegal in places with a sub-four inch limit, such as Colorado, Nebraska and others with similar laws. They are perfectly legal here in Kansas, and Texas has a five inch limit if I recall corectly, so even the new Police III is legal there.
