AlMar Or Spydy?

I am concidering a "dress" carry knife that isnt too dressy and not too fragile..

I really have my eye on a pair of knives.. and I would like some opnions.. I guess this may be a biased source for any opnions concerning Spydies, but, It has been my expierence that most ppl here are pretty straight forward and honest..

I am concidering a full size Calypso or an AlMar Hawk/Falcon. I have had no expierence with either of these knives and would like some opnions..

It wont need to be a true "tacticle" .. just somthing to have on hand "incase" and possibly peel a fruit or cut some string, you know.. day to day chores, not a work knife.

Any opnions would be apriciated.

Ok, regarding your post, I have no experience with the Calypso full size but, I can recommend as EDC's "dressy" knives the following:

1. Calypso Jr.
2. Jess Horn (I noticed A.G. Russell has some nice ones)

I don't have the Falcon, but the Large Calypso certainly would fit your needs. A classy dress knife on steroids. One of my favorites.

I'll second Kahz's suggestion of the Jess Horn. I just took delivery of a black Micarta Jess Horn (from A.G. Russell) and it certainly fills my needs for a "dress" knife which is still a real cutter. It may be a little smaller than you have been considering but it may be worth a look.

How about the new Viele? That's always been a classy knife and now with the bugs worked out, the liner lock won't wear out in a week.

For a classy, yet serious knife, I'd go with either the Calypso (great knife; I have one, but it may not be the best choice for self-defense), Viele, or Zowada. If you want a smaller classy cutter, look around for a Micarta Calypso Jr.

Mate, I'm a huge Calypso fan and own an example of every
Calypso made. Normally I'd recommend the Large Calypso
for what you ask about ,but in this case it may be to much knife.
So would the Al mar Eagle.

For what it's worth look at a smaller knife for your "Dress" needs.
Something with a 3" or smaller blade. You will find that size
is much better suited to daily "chores" that a 4" or longer blade.

When I carry my Large Calypso it is for one reason only.....
To use as a weapon if need be.

For everything else I carry a small pocket knife. So I have
a dress weapon AND a dress pocket knife. With what a
Large Calypso weighs no additonal bulk is noted when I
carry both. If you have a chance to buy a Large Calypso
by all means do so. You'll never be sorry as it is an excellent
cutting tool. There is an additonal point about a Calypso.
When the blade pops open the sound of the lock setting
is quite distinctive and VERY impressive. Often the sound
alone wil settle a disturbance.

Thanks for all your input.. The reason I was concidering these two knives was because I had a chance to handle a large Calypso at a gun show here a few months ago and fell in love. I was in the market for an EDC, one that i could snug away even at work (I work in a hospitol, so it would have to be comfortable clipped to scrubs) I found that the Calypso was a little more knife than what i wanted at that time.. and im still kicking my self for not getting it anyway!!
My interest in the AlMar stems from my love afair with the large thin bladed "melon knives" of yester year. I still have one my grandmother gave me to 'play' with when I was just a sprout. Later on in life as I realised my interest in knives I thought a stronger version of that knife would be wicked as a carry knife, and the AlMar Eagle/Falcon's are the closest thing ive seen.
I have a couple of dozen of knives with blades under 3", some fixed some folders .. and I have found that i just appriciate a little more blade. THere is just somthing about the Jess Horn that dosent appeal to me. But then again i have never had any hands on expierence with it.
I will say that I have long been concidering the Chinese folder... I actually love the engronomics and size of that little blade, but I would perfer a micarta or even G10 with liners for the handle. Of course this is just personal prefrence.
