My dad just recently picked one of these up for himself in 9mm. I think this means the Kimber Eclipse will be mine... :)
Any thoughts on these? I'm not really a fan of Glocks or any polymer-handled guns, but as far as they go, this one feels pretty right. Seems almost like a compromise between a 1911 and a Glock.
Keep in mind this is the XD, not the XDm... we wanted 9mm and the m only is available in .40 S&W right now.

The XD is a great gun. Bomb proof practally. Just a fun gun to shoot, and it works quite well. I'm not a huge glock fan just because of the lack of safety features. And I cant really afford a 1911 even though I love them, so I find the XD an excellent middle gound thats hard to beat for the price.

The S&W M&P line is also very 1911'ish and I havent had any issues with mine after ~850 rounds.Tricod wrote:The XD is a great gun. Bomb proof practally. i like glocks for the simplicities, btw they just made a new trigger with a push button that acts as a safety like other handgun safetiesTricod wrote:The XD is a great gun. Bomb proof practally. This is true!. I'm not saying they arnt great guns, heck its a pretty well proven fact that you can beat the check out of one and it will still shoot straight. I just happen to really like the grip saftey of the XD.RIOT wrote:i like glocks for the simplicities, btw they just made a new trigger with a push button that acts as a safety like other handgun safeties

No experience with them, I'll have to try one out.

I own several handguns, one of which is a XD-9.
I have to agee that the thing is "bomb-proof". I've put close to 30 thousand rounds through mine w/o so much as a hiccup. Not 1 jam/MF/etc. I clean after every shoot. The only thing I did not like was the guide rod/recoil spring; with the slide forward, it sticks out ever so slightly so as to look like a thumb tack or something. It was an easy fix. A Wolff spring and guide rod (non-captured) made things look right.
I have shot and competed with Glocks on several different platforms (9MM, .40, 45ACP, 45GAP, 10MM). Although many would say they are the gold standard for reliability (I don't necessarily disagree), I do not like them. They are not confortable for me. I have a small hand and they always feel like I've got the wide part of a 2x4 in my hand. The XD, on the other hand, feels great.
IMHO, the best 'feeling' handgun is the 1911. I only worry about reliability as they are so often 'noodled' with. I think that is 1 of the big reasons that contribute to their reputation of being finicky.

The xd is a super design - I am going off the 45 tactical. I think that the pistol itself, plus all of the "xd gear" that comes with it, plus the springfield coupon, really make it one of the better deals out there. My single, insignificant complaint is that the trigger is not as crisp as I would like, but is certainly functional. Absolutely a fine piece

Yep, I'll throw another positive in for XD. I have a 9SC and my brother-in-law a XD40 that both are awesome, no issues with either. Several people have shot them first time, my wife, one of his friends, others, and been able to hit targets more consistantly than with anything else. Very good pointability.
I was also looking at the Glock, but with the finger ridges I have a hard time finding any that feel good. After handling many guns, my 9SC is one that felt right the first time picked it up. It doean't hurt that they are less $$, but I would have gone with it even at $100 more.

jk, there is a lot of good info and pics here, and a good natured atmosphere.

Yep, actually Croatia, it is made in Croatia and SA has license to stamp their name on it. Outside the US is is produced as the HS-2000 (Hrvatski Samokres).
"The Springfield Armory XD is a semi-automatic pistol manufactured in the city of Karlovac, Croatia by HS Produkt (formerly I.M. Metal), and licensed and sold in the US by Springfield Armory, Inc.[1] The HS2000 (Hrvatski Samokres (Croatian Pistol)), or XD (X-Treme Duty) series of pistols are polymer-framed and striker-fired."
Per Wiki - yeah I know, not Gospel, but easiest source to find at the moment.

The reason it looks like that is so you can press it up against something (someones head, as the guy at Academy told me), and it doesn't mess with the recoil spring's action, no matter how hard you press. It's kind of a well thought out feature.712KY wrote:I own several handguns, one of which is a XD-9.

I agree with your assessment of the 1911, however reliability is not a problem as long as you know what ammo you use and have the proper spring.
I'll post pictures later of my spreads with a Kimber 1911 and the XD 9mm from today at about 8 yards

It's not for any recoil spring issue - the plug gives a stand-off distance so the slide will not get pushed out of battery and can, therefore, still fire when the muzzle is pressed into someone. I'm not sure how effective that would be. When pressed into a body the whole muzzle in will get pressure on it and I think the slide would go back anyway.Piercieve wrote:The reason it looks like that is so you can press it up against something (someones head, as the guy at Academy told me), and it doesn't mess with the recoil spring's action, no matter how hard you press. I have a .45 ACP Service in DE, and this is my EDC pistol. I have about 1300 rounds through it so far and its been a great gun! Very simple to use. Definately a point and shoot pistol. My gf can shoot it just fine and she is 95 lbs 4'11''. :p
If you get it, I suggest to check out xdtalk.com. A forum just for XD :D

Ah, well I knew it was something like that.gac wrote:It's not for any recoil spring issue - the plug gives a stand-off distance so the slide will not get pushed out of battery and can, therefore, still fire when the muzzle is pressed into someone. Yessir, It's a sweet gun. I got about a 4 inch group of 15 rounds my first time shooting it. :)J Smith wrote:I know a couple people that have one and they love them.I have also heard it said that they are what Glock should be.

As I was in the military and now as a security guard I had/have the oportunity to use the HS 2000 version.Only I can say is that it is the best tactical handgun in the world. Grips better than Glock and there is something about the spring of the Glock it just doesn*t fit right in a hurry. The XD is so easy to use ,to maintenance. Check this out, it will give you a perception of it*s quality http://springfield-armory.primediaoutdo ... tory11.php
