Opinions on the Military

#1

Post by axis27 »

Hey, I was now looking to get a military and was wondering what you guys' opinions of it were. My friend has one and I just can't figure out if I really like it enough to drop a hundred bucks.

I want one with full serrations, but the serrations don't go to the tip and I don't know if I trust that liner lock yet. Let me know what you guys think.

I've had my current Military for over a year now, it's my everyday carry. This may be the greatest knife in the history of man.

When I first saw one in '95 or '96 I thought, "What an ugly knife." I got one anyway, but only owned it for a very short time, and didn't give it a chance before I traded it for something else.

About a year and a half ago, I wanted a more substantial knife for carry at work. By then I was a die hard Spyderco guy, so I gave the Military another try. Wow! What a dope I was to get rid of it in the first place. This knife does everything well and achieves the nearly impossible combination of rock solid AND light as a feather.

I used to buy knives all the time. I'd get one, and soon another would catch my fancy. Since I got my Military, I don't look around anymore. It must be love.

Through my time on the forums, I've heard people bash about every linerlock on Earth except Spyderco's. That definitely says something for the quality involved! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

The plain edge portion on the front end of the serrated blade of the Military is great, and I find that it comes in very handy. There is no reason for concern with the nested linerlock on the Military. It truly is a particularly good design, combining light weight and extreme durability. Get one, you won't be sorry. Medic2110,

I assume this means that you have acquired a military? If so, congratulations.

An awsome knife, I only wish I could carry it more often.

One of the strongest liner locks out there.

Is that a <img src="http://spyderco.com/forum/spyder.gif"border=0> in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me ?

I really like mine, and find that it is slipping into my back pocket more and more often these days.

Here is a .. uh .. interesting review:

The Military is one heck of a knife!

It is very light with great gripping G-10 scales (handles). It's also big.

When you need a right sized knife, this is the one.

Even though some people might be surprised or even upset by the size of the blade, it is my everyday carry.

I also carry other Spyderco knives in rotation. During the summertime, I carry the Spyderench a lot. Right now I've been adding the Bob Lum Chinese Folder and the Lil Temperance as my other carries.

One way or the other, you pay for your tools!

sorry but i'm gonna have to disagree here, i'm in a kinda love/hate relationship with my millie, of all my knifes i've acidentally cut myself with this one the most, and its been plagued wityh problems of the screws coming loose and on one occasion falling out. i find it really hard to sharpen on the 204, or rather sharpen WITH the last mm of the tip intact. on the other hand it feels soooo good...

Sooo, if I were to get one, should I go for the model with CPM-440V or ATS-34? I heard a lot of good by both models, and I really think I'd prefer the CPM, but what do you all think?

Thanks!

I think everyone should have at least one Military. I currently have four, and if I'm ever a lucky dog, number five will be the elusive Black Millie. If you just want one for a daily user, I'd go with one of the newer CPM-440V models. For a large EDC it is much slicker than the ATS-34 models, at least in my experience. I'd have to agree with tortoise. I just love this knife.
