We're told that the Urban will be available in October. I would guess that it means November for shipment.

Sorry for the delay on this item. Some parts are made in the USA and shipped to Seki.

I'm kind of happy that this got pushed back, I'll have some time to make money so i can buy it!

Is the urban going to be a fast sell out? I was curious if any vendors were taking pre-orders, of if it would be necessary to reserve one.

I like locks on knives but I like the idea of the urban for a lot of reasons.

1) small/sheeple friendly
2) G-10 handles are tough
3) interchangable blades equals lots of options (the most innovative idea)

My fear is that it will be too costly to really 'get into peoples pockets' on the scale that we would all like. When I tell a NKP that my knife cost $80 or $100, usually there is some jaw dropping. So what will the pricetag be?

I believe so.

I am thinking the Urban is supposed to be a tiny bit bigger than the Dragonfly.

The Dragonfly has a 2.31" blade. The Urban blade will be 2.5" long.

Don't shrink the handle though. I dig small blades but I often find that their cutting ability is hampered by a handle that is too small to grip well.

Unfortunately this long handle short blade concept may deter some folks because it looks strange.

I was reading this thread and saw this point i totaly agree with this point i use my little robin for very hard tasks and the small serrated blade more than handels the tasks but the handel somtimes is to small to "really get on to" if ya know what i mean. That is why i bought a crow for work.

Also i like the idea of this knife and strugled with the Urban, ukpk or caly 3 for my pride and joy edc. The caly was the winner in the end. Cant wait to see the urban though.

Two different websites, neither what I would call "mainstream" Spyderco shops (as far as I'm familiar with), have listed that the Urban is due September 17th. :eek:

I just did a search for Spyderco Urban in google, and they popped up. Not sure what the rule is about posting links to external stores, so I'll leave it to you all to find it for yourselves.

I certainly won't hold my breath, but I do take it as a sign that its close!! :o

I think a pink-handled Urban would be about as NKP-friendly as you can get. Purple would be cool also. I have not stumbled across this thread until today (I know, I know...), and I am very jazzed about Spyderco producing a mix-and-match concept, that, over time, would allow people to buy components that suit them exactly. Separately-offered different colored handle options could turn this into the modern cutlery version of the 'Swatch' (albeit of a much higher quality), and only having to pay for the FRN molds once, and using them for different colors (if that's possible) might be fairly cost-efficient. I think making 'fun' color handles is going to be part of what it takes to popularize knives in the mind of the general NKP public.
Maybe most of the time I would want to wear my brightly colored Urban handle as an edc because that is what I usually like - then, for a dress occasion - I put on the smooth ivory micarta grips. The possibilities are endless, and, once again, Spyderco is taking the lead in doing something that makes complete sense, but that no other major knife manufacturer seems to have thought of (as was previously the case with a round hole, a metal clip, and serrations).
I don't know if this has been mentioned as part of the plan, but I think 'sprint runs' of interchangeable blades in exotic steels could not only increase versatility, but also collector interest. If I already had an Urban with the VG-10 leaf, I could later consider getting the separate 'S30V wharncliffe', 'D-2 clip point' or 'H-1 hawkbill or straight-rescue' blade options.
