A new Forum Knife, Please?

#1

Post by rlw1979777 »

I had some ideas that maybe Sal would consider. I know its probably hard to come up with a different version and make it cost worthy with only 500 peices. But here are some of my ideas.

First off, A black bladed, G10 Manix with D2 Steel, with a pearl bug on the Handle, like the old Forum Millies.

A Lum.. Chinese Black bladed with black almite.. Would look awsome!

A Almite handled D2 Superhawk

Almite Sage, maybe blue?
I have a small collection.. At least in my mind its small. All respect to Sal and this great company! Collector Club Member #120

It cost a boat load of money to make a new model, or even a variation. Considering that the average amount of forum knives sold, is what, less then 300?

i highly doubt it is going to happen, even though there would be around 300 forum members on here who would really like it. the only thing i could see happening is taking a regular production knife (maybe a sprint run?) the way it is, no new handles, blades configuration, steel etc... and engraving it with spyderco "Forum Knife 2008". just my opinion.

I agree, nominating/engraving an existing knife would be the most cost-effective way to do it

I nominate either the FG Manix Sprint run (just extend the sprint run a little longer)
-OR-
The H-1 Rock Salt!

It'd be nice to honor a fixed blade, *AND* an H-1 steel knife with Forum Knife 2008 honors

Plus, the Rock Salt just looks plain cool anyway

On second thought, I add one more to the list....
Sprint Run of the Dodo, just ressurect it, same steel, G-10 scales, bring the Dodo back from extinction

I love and can't wait for the Lum, but any writting on that blade would only detract from the beauty of it.

The new Rookie would be my vote. Blue G-10 ala Dodo/Yo which continues the blue from the Native forum knife.

I second the idea of extending the FG Manix sprint run, with engravings, for a forum knife!

I think Foliage green Para, with Black blade like seen here http://spyderco.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33550

would be a Amazing Forum Knife.

Orange FRN Dragonfly!!!

Or even White...The more simple we keep things the more likely it is to happen.

I agree with the folks here that say we need to stick to a simple current production model. This way the Spyderco Crew doesn't have to make something old or retool or whatever.

Below is a list of knives I have come up with that seem to me they would be somewhat simple to create and engrave to send out
  1. Fully Serrated Etched Dragonfly
  2. Plain Edge White Delica 4
  3. British Racing Green Delica 4 in VG-10
  4. White FRN Dragonfly
  5. New Rookie with Black G10 handles
  6. Delica 4 with black G10 handles
  7. Black Blade CPM-S30V Paramilitary with Foliage Green G10 handles
I'm sure there could be many many more options. I'm just thinking that the more complicated things get the less the chance of anything actually happening.

Actually as I have said in the past I don't expect anything because Spyderco is already going crazy out of their way with all the tons of knives they are making right now for us and everyone else. :)
