I have no need to carry 20 pens and no one will think me a bad *** for doing so LOL...Now the Yo Yo is a weapon..if you know how to use it...wouldn't mind carrying a few of those....specially if they were made from some exotic steel....I can see it now a Spyderco Yo-Yo with a hole in the middle....Caly E wrote:You dont need one, you want one! I am confused... Can someone post some links for this topic? I will buy anything Spyderco if I can justify the cost to fill my needs. What are we talking about here? I have always avoided the temptation to pick up a bali. The learning curve would be ugly for me. I can make a lock-back Spyderco look like a magic trick. Practice practice practice... a bali would probably be especially ugly.
I am slow out of the blocks on this one.
I will Google this but a little help would be appreciated.

It's very interesting that Spyderco is branching out in terms of product class...I hope this works out well for Spyderco.
While the folks in Golden are thinking about alternate products, PLEASE consider creating some woodworking tools with upscale steels. Even the best conventional-steel, German-made chisels I can buy, sharpened at conventional angles, crumble at the edge and need frequent resharpening.
What I wouldn't give for an S30V or VG-10 chisel, or plane blade...whether I could Bali with it or not...

I think it's funny that some of the same folks who get sour when asked why they spend so much on high-quality knives are balking at spending so little on a high-quality pen. There are pens that cost several hundred dollars which won't provide the same enjoyment.
Looking forward to the Bali-Yo. Thanks for the update, Sal!

IDK...thombrogan wrote:I think it's funny that some of the same folks who get sour when asked why they spend so much on high-quality knives are balking at spending so little on a high-quality pen. There are pens that cost several hundred dollars which won't provide the same enjoyment.
Thats a really good question. Why is that???
Back when I was in Basic school, I bought some *expensive* pens because I was taking notes like a madman. They were only 6 bucks for a 2 pack, Yet to me.. That is allot for a ink pen.
Buying a nice knife every now and then is the Only nice thing I have. I cant afford to buy the best of everything.
The pens I use are the ones that they give out at FirstBank. And Honestly, I think a 10 crappy free pen makes allot more sence then 1 nice pen.
I can lose 15+ free inkpens in a day and not care about it. And when I lost the 3 dollar inkpen.... I was pissed.
IDK.... All i know is that I am going to be buying a BaliYo. And I will probly still carry free crappy inkpens to write with.... And leave the BaliYo in my pocket.
And another good question is? Whos hand writing all this stuff that they need a good inkpen?
But then again; The question could be asked; How much stuff am I cutting that I need my MT Ultratech or my ATR or Millie??
and that equels $.02

After today I am sold... I Will be getting one of these guys! :D
Today I went to the SFO just for fun, like I often.
I walk in say hello to Jim and Lynette and notice that Lynette is playing with a Baliyo. So of course I ask if they are out. She says no, that the one she has is simply a prototype that she was loaned for a few days.
She proceded to show me a couple tricks, just a couple things she knew.
I HAVE NEVER HAD SO MUCH FUN PLAYING WITH A PEN!!! It was just a blast. I couldnt hold it without playing with it. I was honered that she let me spin it at all.
It was completely addictive. Katie (my fiancee) is going to kill me when I get one... Cause I know we will be trying to have a converstion and i'll be figeting with it. :D
Before you ask, I dont know anything new about the release date. She said she thought it was still set for July or August...

I buy pens to meet specific needs. The really cheap pens are just torture to use (very mild torture). I buy them to lose at work. When the nasty ones disappear I do not care. I keep an expensive three dollar pen in my pocket and try to never to lay it down. The key is to never lay it down. I keep my Spydies forever since I figured that out.ClockWork wrote:IDK...

A comfortable writing instument is a small pleasure in my day. I also carry a mechanical pencil, a Sharpy, and a yellow highliter. Each is used where most appropriate.
If a Bali-Yo would add fun to function, count me in. I would enjoy entertaining my fellow employees rather than scaring them as I do now.

:D That's excellent, a SPYDERYO! :D Good one, Doc! I would definitely buy a SPYDERYO! Now all we need is an automatic pen to round out the line up, sort of like those 'switch-combs' they used to make - maybe call it a Citapen or a Pentadel.Dr. Snubnose wrote:I have no need to carry 20 pens and no one will think me a bad *** for doing so LOL...Now the Yo Yo is a weapon..if you know how to use it...wouldn't mind carrying a few of those....specially if they were made from some exotic steel....I can see it now a Spyderco Yo-Yo with a hole in the middle....Just call it a SPYDERYO....Doc :D

And I'm eagerly awaiting a BaliYo or two, but I'm still a little worried about how the airport security lads are going to react. Will it be going the way of my favorite nail clippers the first time I try to take it with me on a flight? :o
