Pens

#1

Post by J Smith »

I know Spyderco is coming out with the baliyo but that is more of a toy than a heavy duty pen. What got me to post this was the fact that I am looking for a good simple heavy duty pen that is 100% made from stainless or something else that you do not have to worry about the finish wearing.I have a couple Roting 600s but the trim pieces are chrome and do wear.I have found a few but the prices are much to high for me,well over 100.00 each.I just put a bid on the Benchmade pen but its not really what I am looking for.
So with saying all this I guess I am asking if anyone else would want a well made ,simple, heavy duty, non tactical pen from Spyderco?

I'm a fan sturdy metal pens too. If they did want to make something, I would probably buy it. It would be nice to have some sort of non-rubber grip enhancement where you hold it near the tip. Machined knurling or even the acid-etch pattern used on some of the stainless :spyder: 's would be cool.

Knurling is cool, but depending on the type, ait can be really rough on your hands.

I'd definitely like to see something from Spyderco though. I think a nice "bug" on a gray clip the color of the gray caly jr would be great!

Oh man - an H-1 pen with a Fisher refill - *dream*
I have been using a Fisher Zero Gravity pen for work the past few years, it is metal bodied with a rubber coating, very durable, and I only need a new one when I drop the thing in a stream!!!
I am so looking forward to the BaliYo, I think they are gonna make great gifts!!

I'd rather have Spyderco stay away from the pen market.

IMO there is way to much good stuff out there already and Spyderco really wouldn't be able to compete. plus we need the 42 to people to keep developing more knives we can't spare a single one :p

I'm not sure that even a Spyderco pen could displace the Parker stainless Classic I've been carrying since 1985.
I don't believe in safe queens, only in pre-need replacements.

Sturdy and Cheap

#10

Post by KaliGman »

You want sturdy and cheap? How about a thick block of aluminum turned down and knurled into a sturdy pen?

These also work great as impact devices, should the need arise Troika pens available here:

When I have time, I use fountain pens, Parker 51s, Namikis.

When I am out of the house I use a Space Pen, on of the chrome cap-o-matics.

when it runs out of ink, do you view it as useless or does it become a good yawara stick to you?

What about one of the lava finish rotring 600's I think they would wear a little better than the silver finish ones. I personally think the 600's are some of the best pens out there for under 50

Delica and Endura are great knives! They're the low priced crack samples that'll get you hooked on spyderco! Feed the need!

I have a 600 in silver and lava.
The lava is holding up OK but still shows wear.
I have been looking around, the Rotrings have shot way up in price.

I reckon then that the pen is not something you loan out to co-workers? :D

I'm anxious to see the BaliYo, but I'm not so much interested in a heavy duty style 'tactical pen' from Spyderco. It would be hard to top the parker pen I've been carrying for the past 6 years.

Futura Stainless Steel Space Pen

#17

Post by Jay_Ev »

I use a Fisher Futura Stainless Steel Space Pen for the most part, but also have a small collection of Zebra pens. Here's a pic of the Fisher Futura next to a Zebra F-701:

I tell you what. The largest or the most heavyduty looking pen that I saw was over on the Sayoc kali site a year or so ago. That thing looked big and heavy, but............it was $200.00. I do not know if they still sell them or not. Oh, by the way, nice pen collection you have there! :D
