Post by ClockWork »

Hey Guys;

Quick question here...

I just picked up a Excelent cond /no box Meerkat at a gunshow.
Its in almost perfect condition... almost no wear.

But... Its marked "440C Golden, USA"
Ive never seen one like that... Only VG10 Seki City...

Hopin you guys could fill me in on whats up.....????

Thanks guys...

Those were the first ones, don't know how many were made before production went to Seki.
I think you made a nice score.

Wow. I didn't know they were ever made with VG10. I've only seen them in 440C and AUS6.

Copilot might know. I think he collects them

I've been trying to find a NIB "Golden Meerkat" PE with a 440C blade for some time now. I've seen a few on eBay and all were regular PEs (not the reverse S type blade). It they made the Meerkats in Golden with the reverse S PE blade, that's news to me. Sal would know for sure...

Same here. I've never seen a Seki-made Meerkat with a VG-10 blade.

Obverse -
SEKI-CITY
JAPAN

Reverse -
SPYDERCO
AUS-6 STAINLESS

Perhaps mine is an early run...

Mine is exactly the same.
The Meerkats were made with both 440c and AUS-6.

440 Meerkat

Post by ryan28801 »

The 440 Meerkat has a slightly smaller blade than the AUS-6 and the writing/bug :spyder: are imprinted on the 440 versus the raised writing/bug :spyder: on the AUS-6...just my observations comparing them side by side. The 440 seems to have a bit more "snap" to the blade when closing, seems a little smoother if thats possible.... :D
