To Ronin or not to Ronin?

#1

Post by LOOKABIRD »

So I have the opportunity to get my hands on a Ronin. What makes this knife so good? I hear good things about it but I don't see anything outstanding about it.

You have not looked hard enough....All I'll say is the Ronin is the best SD fixed blade knife ever produced by Spyderco and possibily the best SD fixed bladed knife in a compact package ever produced by anyone, cept for Mr. Snody's custom Ronins themselves......Doc :D

No one can say Ronin on these boards without saying Doc! They seem to be one and the same. Ronin's are very nice blades. Do not have one, but the Yo is a suitable substitute for now! :D Take care all and God Bless. :D

The benefits of the Wharncliffe blade for SD in a fixed blade. It looks "prettier" than the Yojimbo. And it is designed by Michael Janich and Mike Snody... Two of my favorite knife folks.

Just buy it...

Fact of the matter is when you find a really great knife you should buy two and put one away for safe keeping....FWIW....My total Ronin count to date (drum roll) is 63....So Lookabird, if you choose not to get the Ronin, PM me and let me know your source, that would be greatly appreciated...as I so hate odd numbers.....Thanks....Doc ;) :D

Same with me. I have yet to find a Ronin. Are the Yojimbo and Ronin designed by the same person?

63
In the past I've felt guilty about purchasing a few backups of particular models caught my interest. For the most I just kept them packed away in their boxes. Thanks Doc, no more will I feel guilty about such things. In fact, I'm going to use you as an example if I ever get badgered about hoarding one or two extras. 63!!! Good lord.

Just in case someone has trouble picturing the 63 Ronins...

You're right Doc, your odd number of Ronins is just plain wrong. You need one more to even things up!

Just get it.

Ronin is my all time favorite knife, because it introduced me to Spyderco. No better SD fixed blade competes with the ronin and I very much doubt Spyderco will ever produce another one that even comes close

As the Doc said check out the website of snody and the many different versions of the ronin and yojimbos.

take care

thanks for the Ronin visuals PSU :p looks like Doc is set for 63 lifetimes ;)
I was under the impression that the designer of both the Ronin/Yojimbo was Michael Janich (only)

On the topic of ronin....

I Just traded my NIB CE Endura4 and a User SS Byrd for a Mint condition Ronin, No box.

I'm actually not too fond of Fixed blades. I have a few, and I don't like them that much. But I had to jump on this. Sounded like a good trade. I havent got the Ronin yet.

I'd actually rather have the Yojimbo or a Civy that the Ronin.

Other than the wicked Wharnscliffe blade, what makes it such a good knife? The handles kinda look like Micarta. Are they?
