Turquoise FRN -- any interest?

#1

Post by clovisc »

i've bought and appreciated a great deal of spyderco's colored FRN knives. nearly anything non-black appeals to me, and finds its way into my collection. :D

one color i'd really, really like to see in FRN is turquoise.

traditionally, this color has been sacred to many cultures worldwide. would look good in jeans, khakis, black slacks... nearly any outfit. would appeal to men as well as to women. (might match your wife's jewelry... :D )

anyone else interested in turquoise FRN????

It would probably blend better with faded blue jeans than the smurf blue of the yojimbo.

turquoise has great fashion properties, as well as cultural properties... and i think it would appeal equally to men and women. i hope sal gives it consideration... :D

it would be cool if it were a "shade shifting" color... capable of going from greenish to blueish...

can't wait to buy a white endura... and some more orange spydies... :D

Having grown up in AZ, I would be interested. I think I might get a turquoise Kopa while they are still available too. Good idea clovisc.

sounds good to me Jason, I tend to favor darker shades of colors for discretion reasons while in the suburbs though...but this color would be great for an Urban or two

Personally, I'd be looking for some maroon, gunmetal, and tan FRN.

Two out of three have been done more or less. Tan Endura and Burgundy something or other... :p Burgundy is close enough unless you are a girl.

Jano, the background of this page is what Wikipedia says is the "official" definition of turquoise as a color. It contains three boxes showing the "web colors" of light, medium, and dark turquoise and a couple pictures of Spydercos with turquoise (stone) scales.

BTW I think the greenish blue or the bluish green of the FRN Dyad is close to a deeper turqoise.

I'm in ONLY if there's at least 5.5% tungsten in the steel, and some cobalt. Color for colors sake is ......well.......It confuses me. What's the purpose? Joe

i'm definitely interested in weird steel, too... but that's a different matter... :D

when i buy a new knife, i always give serious consideration to the issue of "how does this differ from other knives i've bought?" new steel might be a factor. color might also be a factor.

color serves a number of purposes, i'd say...

-- makes a knife more NKP-friendly.

-- builds interest in and appreciation of knives from people who might be, um, less than supportive of your "hobby." (i mean, for cryin' out loud... my MOTHER, a huge knife-phobe, bought a pink D4 after seeing it... now she carries it every day, and loves it!!! i've heard a number of other, similar stories...)

-- might carry cultural significance

-- might have an interesting history of development (british racing green)

-- might have "shade-shifting" or other unusual, tech-y qualities

-- might serve a "tactical" function

-- colors have been shown to effect mood

-- marketing experts have also shown that the more expansive a selection is, the more people consume (cough cough wider range of colors cough)

-- most of us "match" colors when dressing ourselves... embarassing though it may be, i think the majority of forumites will admit to color-coordinating their knives with what they're wearing...

-- an interesting or "different"-colored knife may serve as a conversation piece

-- it's fun to collect different "variations" of a popular design, such as the endura or delica... many forumites do just that.

probably lots of other reasons, as well.

i don't understand the "man colors" thing... throughout history, turquoise has been appreciated and worn by both sexes alike, treated as a prized adornment with spiritually-uplifting qualities... from native american to egyptian culture, turquoise has been valued. by men, and by women.

just thought it might be a color spyderco might want to consider as they think about future sprint runs...

I think that turquoise FRN would look too much like the greenish teal color on the Jester/Ladybug and also too close to the blue on the Delica III and the D4 with ZDP-189.

When it comes to knife handles whether they are made from Aluminum, Titanium, FRN, or G10 I prefer either black, blue, burgundy or green. For me the other colors are just too bright or light colored. I like the yellow Salt Spydies but I don't own one because to me bright colors advertise the fact that it's in my pocket. I like to keep things on the "down low" if you know what I mean. :)

A true turquoise color would look good on the Centofante-3 or -4.

With the silver Spyderbug and a silver clip, it would make a nice-looking lightweight "dress" knife.
