Reason for Carring

#1

Post by Mr.Skin »

Hi All,

I instruct in defense tactics, mostly ASP baton and some R.A.T. (Rapid Assault Tactics). As part of my classes I like to touch on blades. I’ve come up with 5 reasons blades are carried. I’m looking for input on these reasons and any other reason that are not on the list.

Emergencies -Cutting seat belts

Utility -Opening boxes, cutting thing

Defense -Personal self defense

Offense -Bad Guys or Special Ops

Show -Hey, look at my cool new toy

Thanks for the input.

Gavin

'Far as I'm concerned utility says it all.I've carried a knife for so long I literally feel naked without one. It's as much a part of my EDC pocket litter as my car keys & wallet.Yes defense is a concern & who doesn't like to show-off new toys but I'll say utility.?Anyone got just one"does it all" knife?

As we know all to well the media in the Twin Cities would not accept anything other than "utility carry". I pitty the officer/security guard who defends himself/herself with a knife no matter how justified it is.

Good posting & question..
Thats why we have MBC..Its an educational process as well as a way of using blades.
We are here to re-educate the American people as to the PCness of carrying steel and the proper way to do it...
Having lived for many years in the Twin Cities I know the media there, like any other media is looking for the PC response..
and the reasoning of why ...not just how.
Educate the media and they'll fight your battle for you..

There is a tactic consent in most LEO agencies that carry steel..No departmental policy yet all do it..Thats a legal catch 22..
No official Academy program or training..

The MBC program is a start to get into these areas and change actual opinion and practice..to change the tactic consent to informed education & policy..

One cannot just have a reason to carry without balancing it up with legal, practical and societal compliance- acceptance....

Because of that your list is OK but I;d eliminate Show..its gone, no need to carry for show if YOU teach as a DTI..

Your DTI classes are @ an academy or to the public?
Your DTI classes are part of the State LEO program? the City?
You teach RAT officially as a DTI to the police within the context of offical training?
Are your blade practitioners LEO's? Security or what?
If you teach blade work as part of a response nature - and I'd NEVER list it as offensive & defensive..just Tactical response..I'd find out which Force Continuum model is used and fit inside of it..

Emergencies, Utility don't need explaination..nor size..smaller the better..

keep it simple...
Emergencies- any life saving situation
Utility- any working situation
Tactical response-any personal encounter situation

have a great day!!!
