JaM, you're better than me coz I've tried to spyderdrop my UKPK w/o success...the notch joint has a "sticking point" at 90 degrees (when the blade is opening) which also "gets in the way" of the spyderdrop....but after some wear and tear i figure it's possible....just really difficult

Honestly, that sounds like the worst-written law in the world... It's just enough to placate the anti-knife groups / scare the users like us, but it doesn't actually make any hard and fast rule about whether knife carry is allowed or not.

Then again, it could be worse: so long as your law enforcement community has a respect for the rights of citizens, it doesn't sound like this law will cause any problems for the average user. I carried a locking folder when I was in the UK a few summers back, and I didn't have any problems.

Ask yourself: under what circumstances would you ever be searched by the police? If you find yourself getting searched all the time, it might be a good idea to stop carrying a knife anyway.

Aloha ALL,

Some folks in Germany told me about this...I thought this "law" had already been passed? Hmmmmm, regardless if it did or not, it sucks and don't these law makers have better things to do? Cripes...

God bless and take care guys.

This new proposed legislation will suck for the Germans ! They'll start to become like Australia :(

BTW: you can Spyder-drop a UKPK and a DKPK for that matter. As already mentioned just make sure you take a good grip on the UKPK hole as it may end up on/ in your toes !!!. As for the DKPK, you need a much firmer grip and it is not recommended.... at all. Slipjoints like UKPK an DKPK, just go use your thumb please, no need to Spyder-drop.

I wish the Germans well and hope the knife afi's have some sort of 'voice' that can represent them in the legislative council before it gets passed

You know, there is no moral obligation to obey an unjust law... in fact sometimes the moral obligation may be to break an unjust law..

Yeah.... but a FIXED knife with 11,9 cm blade length (more than a Millie or police!) is still perfectly legal, even if you don't have a "legal reason" to carry it :D   :D

How stupid can a law get?

You know why it is like that? Because the stupid politicians are scared of how it LOOKS when a knife is opened in a "cool" way (see balisongs->forbidden). It looks "tactical"..... so, what they REALLY called "one-hand-fighting-folding-knives" (never heard THIS term before, they made it up!) is dangerous and must be forbidden.

So, If I weld the blade and the handle of my Police together so it can't be CLOSED anymore, it is legal again :D :D :D :D

The longer I think about it, the more aggravated I get.

Our politicians are a bunch of morons. q.e.d.

The Deacon wrote:Peter, reading your translation makes me wonder if the law will only prohibit carrying one handed opening locking folders IF the blade is over 12cm? That's darn near 5", so if those are the only ones being restricted, then it really not that terribly restrictive.
Paul, as I wrote I'm no lawyer and in addition I'm no skilled interpreter. Perfidy is in grammar - IMHO all one handed opening locking folder irrespective of the blade lenght are concerned (Toad - Catcherman). I don't own a Mini-Mariner - what do you say: Included or not included

BTW a hint of sarcasm: Austria is well known for tourism. Seems that we have a new market niche - "Spend you holiday in Austria, we STILL have one of the most liberal knive law in the world." Just kidding, I ask for forgiveness :)

@Spydutch: I've seen your fluent written German and will not translate it :p

To the german forumites:

There is an open letter to your "Landesregierung" that can be downloaded from the "Messermagazin" at http://www.messermagazin.de and sent before the 14th of March. That's when the law will be decided.
Go ahead and do something, I'll send my letter today.

Ich habe jedenfalls nicht vor, mich einfach so kriminalisieren zu lassen. Hätte nie gedacht, daß es in Deutschland mal soweit kommt. Vielleicht passiert ja was, wenn genug offene Briefe geschickt werden.

I'm realy sorry to hear this my fellow German knife friends.
I'm now just wondering how long it will take our fine governement
to follow up on these developments.
They always have to be in front and otherwise they will follow the mass.
This is realy BAD ........... :(

Any free countries out there that are willing to shelter the suppressed knife people from Europe ........?

Absolutely true. Unfortunately, my country will enter EU in a couple of years - since many of our laws follow German laws the future for knives does not look bright.

Our present 'knife-law' is very similar to the German one (old one). In reality knives are not a problem here. The real problem is a lot of weapons in civil hands (left from the Independence War in 90ties; besides Kalashnikovs and pistols these include (sometimes) the antitank launchers, sniper-rifles, hand grenades, etc.).

Concerning the Spyderco vis-a-vis new German rules: I can imagine a 'double-role' Spyderco, a blade with a hole and a coin-like part which can be screwed in blade once you enter Germany. Much better then a knife with a hole but without a lock.

Maybe their politicians have some more common sense then ours.
In the mean time, their beer is outstanding and if Simona is any bit of an example, the ladies are quite interesting.
