Devin's damascus with a jade colored G11. If you keep the tall hump, it could be waved with ease.(if t-up) I don't think that the ergonomics could really be improved upon. good thread!

4 inch blade
Integral lock
S30v
G10

4 inch blade
Integral lock
Damascus blade
Carbon fiber

They both would be great in my book. Actually whatever variation you guys decide I will buy two of thats for sure. Really hoping for Damascus though variation, because that would be prefect.

thanks again Sal

Colored handles would be a nice touch, I like the G-11 idea. Would the pattern be the same as the original, or are their any changes that can be made?
Ask me where I got my awesome SUPERHAWK!

Rolling Lock

I own a Rekat Sifu and another one that I can't remeber the name of. It's probably good that you lost the rights to use the rolling lock. I've had issues with both of mine. One of which caused a few stitches  I'm sure that you could have refined the design though if you had the oportunity.

I'm not throwing off on Bob Taylor...I love some of his design concepts. I wish I could get my hands on a Hobbit Warrior. (without costing a weeks pay)

Holy crap! What have I started here?! By innocently starting this thread, have I inadvertently set the wheels in motion on a new Spyderco / Jot Singh Khalsa collaboration knife? If so, then YAY ME!!! But seriously, I do hope something does come out of this, I would love to have a Jot in my collection.

I have visited Mr Khalsa's website before and can say that any design that he and Sal decide is worthy I'm sure will be incredible. But if I get to have a vote:
Folder, not fixed please
3" -4" Blade
Front lock or linerlock
Could dark Jade Micarta happen?
Bolsters anyone???
And if Damascus comes into play I can probably sell an organ, or my car to buy one.
Jay - what an awesome result to your original post, good job. :)
Sal - can we see a picture of the custom job Jot did for you? that would really make this thread blow up.
After enlightenment, the laundry.

Thanks for the abundant information there Sal and Jot! As for a reissue of the C40, I'd just be happy with the original design refined to current production standards. I think the knife's handle can be a bit thinner, and perhaps a ball bearing lock that's more friendly to ambi carry and use.

A lock worthy of a martial knife, ambi. if possible.

Since Mr. Jot works with natural materials, it would be nice to have natural materials on the handle. Cocobolo perhaps?

But then again, I would like a handle that gives a good grip to a sweaty hand. Being brave means not running when you are nervous and sweating like crazy with trepidation. So perhaps the g11 jade or my preference a grippy jade micarta.

I like the original blade length but it would be nice if the handle was a bit longer so the finger choil use wouldn't be necessary if so chosen by the holder. There is a measurable number of knife users that doen't like using the finger choil all the time.

Oh, and the curves of the design ate up a lot of pocket space for a small blade, could we maintain the shape but magically not take up so much space? (I know that last one is pretty unlikely.)
Follow the mushin, but pay it no heed.

What an awesome thread. What an awesome community. I am continually amazed at what I can learn when I visit here. And some of the best lessons are found when Sal or a knifemaker visit to to give us background or request input for a knife design.

I have always admired the Jot Singh Khalasa - from a distance. I was afraid to buy that "funny looking" knife when I had ready oportunity, and ever since I have never heard anything but how excellent a design it was (and is).

Count me in for one this time around. I don't have any ideas for input into the materials or design changes - I agree with Wouter - Bringing current materials and technology to bear just might be all that is needed.

OK, perhaps a little input -I think Micarta (or CF) handles would fit the design of the knife better than G10.

I say keep it the same size. Give it a 4-way clip, and give it G10 or grippy Carbon Fiber. Ball-bearing lock or compression lock.

A new JSK!!

Post by Billycutter »

What a great thread; this sure is a fantastic forum; posts from the masters no less  Thanks all of you for making my evening :D
Yes I will buy one! The Spyderco JSK is one of my dream knives. I have managed to purchase an original (without box and without pocket clip and with damage caused by the clip being torn off!). Hopefully it will arrive and not vanish into the ether as some items I purchase seem to do. I may have paid too much but I do not think so, sometimes you just have to go for it. To me the JSK is worth going for. :)

Howdy, Mr. Khalsa! It's great to have another :spyder: designer here in Sal's living room. :)

By the way, Sal, where's Eric been? I've never seen him post here, although I know (I've heard, at least) that he's a forumite. :)
