One question: Where is the "normal" liner position when opened? My liner is at 2/3 on a new knife and that concerns me a little bit because I think it is already very "close to the end".

Mine (the one in the pics) does too.
I mailed a photo of it to customer's service and they assured me the knife was save.
Furthermore I don't think the lock will fail on you(mine hasn't and I put some rather hefty stress on the lock at times)
