Do high end Spydercos outperform customs?

#1

Post by hy »

I've seen a lot of people say that they buy custom knives because production knives aren't reliable or tough enough. However, I find it difficult to believe that the higher end Spydercos like the Chinook & Lil Temperance with the benefit of CNC equipment and R&D wouldn't hold up to more abuse than many customs costing 4-5 times as much. In addition, is the quality of the various custom collaborations nearly comparable to the real thing?

Dude ~ Its a question of preference.
Customs are made to your desired specifications, while production knives are more straight forward ; there are no individuality...
I've read threads about folders being abused in hard use situation, some made it, while others fail under pressure.
Having been to Spyderco's R&D facility, I must say that plenty of thoughts have been put into each and every model that leaves the drawing board. The knives are practical, tough and affordable. Infact, some of the Spyderco designs are somehowhat custom and very specific like the collaboration series.. Anyway, users are free to choose, so, its hard to set a precedent over whose better IMHO.. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

Hy- I own a few Custom made knives. When I buy a producion knife I almost always lean towards Spyderco. If you have not held a true custom in your hand you need to, my Elishewitz Omega opens and closes so smoothly. The down size is that you are going to pay $400 plus. rr
