The Deacon wrote:Only the Spyderfolk can say for sure, but if I were a betting man, I'd bet on production. Limited production perhaps, like the Stretch II, but still production. To my way of thinking, there is just too much new tooling involved for a Sprint. If it had just been a <insert color other than black here> reissue of the G-10 Police, then it would probably be a Sprint, but aside from sharing the D4 type clip which seems to have become the new de-facto standard, this is a whole new knife.
I would bet on that too. I would guess it is the long awaited "update" of the Police Model.

The pic -albeit smaller- is of the same look and quality as all regular spyderco stock photos. So I'm pretty sure the decision has been made to produce this knife with black G10. Dark blue would be very cool though, but probably not for the mass market.

I have been wanting a G10 Police of each blade variety for several years now. Haven't been able to shell out the big bucks for them on eBay though.

Have to say I have been wanting a Police upgrade and suggested it around 6 / 2006 in a thread . This will not be a size for everyone for sure , but just right for me . Still wonder why a earlier thread was removed . No biggie , thank you Sal and Co. for this upcoming model , it will be worth the wait . MG2

One major feature in my favorite EDC has been a 50/50 plain / serrated blade. This would IMHO increase sales of this model. Think about it, best of both worlds. The ultimate in utility. :spyder:

No thank you on the 50/50. I am content with buying one of each SE and PE. I bought my girlfriend a CE and I am glad it is her's. I cannot stand the combo edge. To each his own though. They've released 50/50 Police models before, though. If they release one of this I'll buy it just to have it. I love the Police!

though i like and appreciate the change to a full flat grind for the blade on the "new" Police, i would miss the ultra-pointy tip as found on the current model.

Not yet.

I just got back from the SHOT show where Sal, Kristi and Crew let me handle the G-10 Police. (Over and over again) It is awesome!!! The prototypes I held were flat ground, black handle, and had a 4 position clip (which is the part I like the best of all.) Just like the pictures.

For the record I too would like some dark blue G10, Police = Blue to me.

Tip still seemed ultra pointy to me. But then the old flat ground G10 Police seems pointy to me too.

think about it... the best of both worlds would be carrying a pe blade, AND an se blade... :D

personally, i'm not a huge CE fan. can't remember the last time i bought or carried a CE knife. (...okay, i guess i bought a burgundy goddard sprint run, just because that was the only edge configuration!).

Is this an "update" to the Police (meaning it will be replacing the current model) or is it a Sprint Run?

I am really jazzed about this knife. The only thing I "miss" over the original, is the "swedge." I love swedges... But hey, I can make do... :D

Hey messer454--I envy you! Can you recall if the one you saw had the Endura style clip with the lanyard hole, as in that same picture? Since the picture from that German website shows a knife without an actual lanyard hole, it seems cheesy to have an Endura clip on it with a non-functional hole.

I would think that a variation as special as this would merit its own clip.

New tooling so i doubt it's a Sprint Run.

Sorry, I'm new here and mildly ignorant of the history behind some Spyderco knives. So, here goes...besides some blade length, what is the differences between this new police model and the G-10 E4? I ask because I was looking at getting the G-10 E4, but after seeing this I wanted to get some info. Thanks in advance.
