Hey All, Like Will V. .......I lost my buddy of 10yrs (someone poisoned him :( ). He was a Blue Heeler named "Zip" (I think I got the name from a movie???). Anyway, the name fit well ...He was 100% ENERGY, real intelligent, and was great with kids. Sorry No Pix of :( :o .

Here's some pix of another buddy that's been with me since I was a kid. No matter what was going on. No matter how sad, mad, or frustrated I was and even to this day.......He always manages to put a smile on my face ;) . Take Good Care All and Be Safe Always.

God Bless :)

Sort of, Clay and Vanie are ''Saarloos wolfdogs''.
A breed from Dutch origin, accepted by the FCI.
Date back to the 30's and were meant to undo the backdraws of domestication.
Bred from German shepherd and European wolf .
Wonderful dogs, very social and communative.

Will V, I am sorry about your dog. They do become real members of the family. We lost a Beagle about 3 years ago that really hurt. We now have another Beagle, his name is Woody.

Thanks, Ron (and thanks to the others who commented). They sure are members of the family, and it hurts to lose them.

Woody looks fantastic. Beagles are great dogs, I wouldn't hesitate to have one. Hounds are tops, IMHO!

Well done Civilian, and they look good.
I'd say, Danes are great dogs in many ways.

Wow Piet a hybrid wolff   .Besides the Mastiff this is one of my absolute favourites.

What's the caracter of these dogs?

I've heart they have very much a mind of their own and chose freedom whenever they get the chance.

i love my dog,i have to admit that somedays, well most days i have way more love for my son/dog Hercules,as he is known by and fellow dogs, than i have towards mankind.i firmly believe that we as humans can learn alot from them and appreciate in life what really matters,as they show us every day we spend time with them :)

They are very social and friendly Arend.
They tend to be shy about things and situations they dont know.
A good socialisation as a pup is importent for this reason.
Inteligent too.
They dont try, they observe.
And just out of nothing they figured out how to open the breadcase and steal the contends.
Thank goodness the fridge is still safe.
Very good communicators, ears, tail, face, posture, position, everything is used constantly.
Some may be prone to break out but we never had that problem.
When taken for a walk at a place where dogs are allowed free they will never leave you as you are a leading member of their pack.
Every time and again they come checking where you are.

A lot of info can be found here, ( Dutch only, I'm sorry).

http://www.avls.nl/_main/index.php?opti ... e&Itemid=1

And here, (English),

http://www.saarlooswolfhond.org/

And yes, they can howl.
Ours do every Sundaymorning to the churchbells.

Some more pics,

Piet:

I owned one of these dogs long ago. It was a Saarloos and German Shepherd mix. Like Clay but more brown and black than grey in color. A great animal. Howled like a wolf.

I hear you. My work now involves mostly primates (see my Avatar) and I observe them and I think to myself: ****, we got to do better than that! They are so human like.
