A little frustrated

#1

Post by ducktapehero »

My wife heard on the radio about a gunstore in town. They advertised as being a dealer in Spydie's among other things. So yesterday I went to this store hoping to fondle a bunch of Spydies. My anticipation was almost overriding my senses. I missed the turn and had to go to the next street and come back. I almost hit an old lady in the parking lot. Needless to say I was shaking like a 5 year old on Xmas eve. So I walked into the store and noticed.....they had 1 Spyderco. Not one model, ONE Spyderco in the store. Needless to say I was a little frustrated.

I went to a dealer listed on the Spyderco website the other week - also excited to score a new Spydie. They had tons of knives... I looked, and looked, and looked... Finally I asked "hey, where are you hiding the Spydercos at?" "Oh... I think we sold our last one the other day..."

Some dealer!

I wish I had a nice brick and mortar spydie store around here!

One of the only brick and mortars in my area closed down...bought a few Spyderco's from there when it was open, including my very first one. Prices were above online dealers but still a fair amount below MSRP. The owner was a decent fellow, too. :(

The only other place around here that carries Spyderco has them marked up so high that it's not worth it and the staff is fairly knife-ignorant as well.

Actually it was either a Military or Para-military(I don't remember which one he told me) and it was going for $169. Not a bad guess though.

Edited to add: It was a Para-military. I remember now. Nice knife but a LITTLE big for pocket carry.

Chicago proper, as far as I can tell, is devoid of brick-and-mortar Spyderco dealers. Without a car, I can't easily get out to the suburbs where there are such dealers. So New Graham gets my money.

I do almost all my Brick and Mortar Spydie shopping at the SFO.

There are a couple others around...@ the Malls, Sportsman's Warehouse, the local Surplus Store.

But I have to tell you, being on and around this Forum has made me...Too darn educated for my own good. Ask a Mallrat Knifeshop person about a ZDP Carbon Fiber Caly and you get this noise...

"...eruh..."

Ask about a Lum Chinese Folder in ZDP and you get this noise...

"...we have the Benchmade Lum (Dejavoo)..." (give him props he connected Lum with Lum)

Surprising the lack of knowledge about Spyderco a short ten miles from the Spyderco Factory.

I did a google search for "spyderco" in my area, and found a listing for a local gun and knife shop. I got out there, and all they had were a bunch of cheap "tactical" folders.

Oh well, at least I have Knifecenter and New Graham.

Went to this Security store selling security systems, small firearms,o yeah, and a Delica3 plainedge, covered in dust, with a faded, overpriced pricetag on the blade!!?
Asked the droid working in the store, where they got the D3 from.
I mean, what probably would have added more effect, was if the D3 was covered in spiderwebs.
The clueless assistant then told me how some knifeblades are made of aircraft alluminium?!!!

The last few weeks of my life has been devoted to opening my new Blade store. *Edited* Not called SpydieGuys, but it's basically everything Spydieguys has been about. *Edited*

*Edited* Hope to see any Forumites should you find yourself near Dallas-Ft. Worth. Didn't mean for this to turn into a commercial, but it's not as if most of you can just walk on over....
*Edited - Sorry - no advertising. TazKristi

Classic bait-n-switch. You can sue. go to your local library and ask for a reference book on consumer laws. I haven't done it before but I know that bait-n-switch is illegal in most places.
