A gift from Spyderco - unbelieveable!

Post by Fred Sanford »

A little history....

I've not been active on the forum for the last 4-5 weeks due to some stuff going on at home. First off my daughter was sick and throwing up. Next in line was me. :) I was off work for 2 days throwing up and sick. And then after we both got better my daughter got sick again. She is just now getting better (thanks to God!).

On top of that I had to finish re-glazing my front window and get it painted before it got cold. I have a huge front window on my house and my house was built in 1948. I really like the old wooden windows that are in the house. So I have taken it upon myself to re-glaze any windows that are in poor shape so that they are like new again. Then we put up the storm windows on the outside and it works pretty well. My front window has 12 panes in it and is about 4 feet tall and 5 feet wide.

The good news is that my Native III got a good workout during the entire process. It was my main knife for that "front window" job. I used it to cut tape and scrape the surface of the windows in certain areas. I also used it to pry out some of the old window glazing where needed.

As you can see...I've been busy.

Now, for yesterday.

I come home from work yesterday and my wife tells me that I got a box. I think, "hmm, that's strange, I didn't order anything". I look at the box and it is from Spyderco. My eyebrows go up and I shake the box a little bit. I think, again "hmmm". I know I didn't order any repair parts or anything so I go in and sit on the sofa and it becomes a family thing. My wife, my little girl, and I are all sitting in the living room opening this box from Spyderco.

I open the box and dig through all the foam peanuts to see a small Spyderco box (the new kind). I look and see that it's a MOP/Abalone Kopa. On the blade it says "David, Thanx Much -The Spydercrew" I'm blown away. That Kopa is my favorite version of the Kopa period. If you guys remember I had one that had a defect and I ended up sending it back to Knifeworks for a credit. I never ended up buying another one but I meant to for a while now. In light of my history with this forum (for those that have been here a long time you know what I mean), I was suprised. I never expected a gift at all when we did the Pizza lunch thing. This means so much to me I cannot even express it in words.

To the folks at Spyderco, Thanks. Thanks a whole bunch! This knife is so sweet. It will be appreciated for the rest of my life.

It started snowing today and I didn't have a chance to take pictures of it last night as I was super busy. I will take pictures of the knife later tonight and post them up in the Picture forum.

I think I will carry the knife, even though it was a gift and has laser etching on the blade. I will use it but use it lightly. I just don't want it to waste away in the box. Plus it's not like you use a Kopa for hard use. ;)

So, I just wanted to share this with you guys (my friends) because it made my year.

As always, God Bless you folks!

Thats the kinda stuff that makes me love Spyderco. Just great people all around. Thats why I continue to buy almost exclusively Spyderco. Its a large company that treats you like its just one or two employees.

High class act Spyderco. Well done :)

Do enjoy that David, no knife should waste away in a box.

David, what goes around comes around. Good as well as bad. It does help in this case that Spyderco is filled with good, decent people with their heads screwed on straight.

The way I feel about these people is even if they didn't put out as good a knife, I'd still buy spyderco. Thankfully I don't have to make that sacrifice. :)

Enjoy your knife. Joe

David,
Believe it or not, I don't think the knife comes close to expressing the gratitude of the folks that enjoyed lunch that day. The little ball you put into motion put a big smile on everyones face that were fortunate enough to be a part the festivities.

Hey David mate !

I was going to PM or email you too . Was worried as I hadn't seen you around for a bit.

Yet another awesome gesture from Spyderco in showing their appreciation to you for organising the lunch. No one here knows the amount of hard work that goes into a small company. And even under pressure from this forum at times to justify their reasons for doing things or not doing things...... just amazing how they keep going on producing the things we all crave.

Once again David, great work, and SPyderco great work :)

Cheers
