Al Mar collaboration?

There were talks at one time of an Al Mar collaboration model .
I believe there were some plans/drawings.
Any chance there still could be one?

Since Al died in 1992, I don't think it is very likely.

Actually it was mentioned in the book called The Spyderco Story ,by Kenneth DeLavigne .
Its inception happened while Al was still alive.
But it has never come to fruition.
Why i wonder. SAl any answers?

If Al Mar is long-dead, why is it some stores still have stock?

The company is still here, and still selling the basic designs that Al was famous for, and some reworkings and variations.

As a knife designer Al Mar was important in the early days of Spyderco. Much of the knife business in Japan depends on introductions and it is my understanding that Al Mar provided some of the early Japan contacts for Sal. After his passing the company remained in family control until it was sold to a friend of Al Mar who continues the company to this day. There are a number of models currently in production and they appear to be of very high quality. Be aware that there are knives coming out of Japan with the Al Mar name that do not appear to be authorized by the Al Mar company. The knives coming from the authorized vendors in the U.S. should be fine but be careful about eBay and direct from Japan sales as you might find yourself with a non-warranty paperweight. Hi SSB,

While Al was a good friend and teacher, we will not be doing the collaboration. There are/were many political issues with makers and the Al Mar name.
