Dear Kopamaniacs:
Please tell me, do you actually sharpen and carry all, most, some, or at least one of your Kopas? If the answer is "some" or "one," which? How did you work up the nerve to do so?
I only own one Kopa, a turquoise, and I am having the darndest time taking it out of its box. I can't bring myself to sharpen or carry it, it's just too beautiful. Every time I try to carry it, I think, "I'll just carry this other Spyder instead." And so it sits.

i did carry my first kopa, the evrina one. it was thrown in my junk basket along with my keys and wallet so it is a little scuffed up. that was my second spydie and thats where i thought i would stop. one for work and one for my off days was my train of thought, then. i am now over the 100 mark...lol. i quit using it after i decided to collect all the kopas. to me the evrina was one of the cheapest looking ones that came out unless you get it scrimshawed, then it really shines. why don't you get a quince (i think they were the cheapest so far) and carry that one and save the turquoise.

Have them all, plus extras of a couple, but the only one that gets any pocket time is the Cocobolo that STR filled the clip screw holes and ground down the bolster on to eliminate the clip mounting depression. He swore he'd never do another one, so unless I can twist his arm when the jigged bone ones hit the street, or manage to find someone else willing to tackle the job, or Sal brings out a run of clipless ones, that Cocobolo will likely remaiin the only one of mine that gets carried.

Bolstermanic,
I like the kopas but am not collecting the set (I am working on the complete Q set :D ) I do how ever EDC this kopa. It mostly shares work duty with the BRG Caly Jr.

i only have the cocobolo kopa, and i carry it all the time. sharpened it several times as well. it's got the usual scruffs and scratches like any knife that gets used in the real world. but as i've said before, to me it just adds character. i also removed the clip on mine, but put the clip screws back in (after shortening them a bit), and added a nice red fob. its still one of my favorite spyderco designs.
ps - a little wood oil (or any oil really) on the cocobolo slabs really shines them up! :)
i've switched the fobs on the para-millie and kopa since this pic...

I have all exept MOP/Abalone, but I carry only my spare Cocobolo few days a week. Great knife, I received many complements. It is the beauty.
I would love to have clipless model (with wood, please :p :p :p )

EDC Kopa
The engraved Kopa my wife gave me for our anniversary is my EDC. I was a little worried about scratching it up, but a few scratches over the next 20 years will just give it some more character for when I pass it along to a grandson or granddaughter. I am more worried about it scratching up my cell phone which I carry in the same pocket. So I made up a thin leather sheath for it. This DEFINITELY slows down deployment, so its not an option for everyone. But it works for me.
Best regards,
Ron

The Kopa is my office knife. I rotate my Kopas (tiger coral, apple coral, turqois, micarta) whenever I feel like it. They get carried and used reasonably. THat means I only cut materials that are softer than the knifeblade. :D They haven't collected any real scratches, but the bolsters got a few scuffs and some blades' finish dulled a bit in color. Doesn't matter, I don't broker in knives and I still enjoy looking at my Kopas. I know that I wouldn't enjoy them as much as when I wouldn't carry and use them.
