i like the Hideaway, and i know there is no cost that can be placed on personal safety... but we all know what its like to have a limited budget for items at times.
any suggested short blade, compact, fixed knives? i think the SPOT and SWICK may be a bit long in the handle for what i want...
thanks all!

The smallest hideaway that I know of that would be most effective is the Kabar TDI LDK (Last Ditch Knife) It is a small wharncliffe blade, super flat, can even be concealed under a shirt collar...or just about anywhere....If I needed something that no one would find but still have an effective SD Fixed blade on my person...I would take this knife along...Doc :D

Yes I have one...use one...they are sturdy and pretty handy and easy to hold on to...plus I wouldn't want to be cut by that little wharnie...you can always put a little tennis wrap over the handle to beef it up if you have trouble holding onto it or if it wobbles in the hand (fingers)when in use...this would all depend on your hand size....the price is sure right...the size is perfect for deep concealment and hideaway.....Doc :D

I've switched over to the Emerson LaGriffe & sold my HAK.
I loved how secure the HAK was in-hand, but it was not as fast into action as my Spot or LaGriffe. Did a test after running 45 minutes so I was winded & tired where I tried accessing them and getting them into play. With the Spot or LaGriffe it seemed faster and there were no problems with a less than perfect grip. With the HAK I felt like I was threading a needle, and a bad grip puts your finger uncomfortably close to the edge.
Just my personal choice so I went with what works for me.

The HA seems fine as a backup knife, but pretty uncomfortable for frequent usage.
From all of those LaGriffe knives, I think the Swick takes the cherry anytime. Great ergonomics, great blade shape, not to mention I think it uses the best steel I've ever seen at a production knife in this category.
