"Q" question for anyone from S.F.O.

Hi Gang!

I recently bought a "Q" through a private sale. It is the "Blade" model, that is, the limited run made for Blade Magazine as a promotion. It has the logo of the magazine on it. (I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about...) When I got it in the mail, I found that it looks different from my other Q's. First of all, it does not have the Spyderco logo anywhere on the handle, as do all the other Q's I have ever seen. It also is not "flat" in the handle like the other Q's, but has more of a diamond shape in cross section. The blade is serial numbered #0750. How many of this run were there?

I just want to know from one of the experts out at SpydieLand if this sounds right, that is, if the "Blade" run was just a little different cosmetically than the other Q's on the market. All my past dealings with this particular seller have led me to believe that he is most definitely honest to a fault. However, the darned thing just looks strange to me, and I just want a second opinion.

My Blade Q #0626 is as you describe yours and the one in this picture is too. Butt the 25th anniversary Blade Q is "normal"?

I can't imagine anyone tooling up to pass off a few of these things. And the blade would be even harder to copy.

Point taken, Chinook. I just thought it was strange that Spyderco's name wasn't anywhere on the knife. I mean, I understand that there isn't much room on the blade itself for a logo,(There's barely enough room for the serial number...)but it just seemed that Sal would want to mark his masterpieces! I was led to believe from reading "The Spyderco Story" that the fatter handles were an earlier design, and that a year or two after the "Blade" model was released, the handles were slimmed down and made one uniform thickness. Am I reading that correctly?

Also, Chinook, did you get your "Blade" model "Q" directly from the Magazine promotion, or did you buy it on the open market, like I did?

I got it from a forum member on BF a few months ago.

I remember seeing the Q promotion offer in the magazine butt was not 'addicted' at the time. ><g>

Hi - Both my brother and i have normal 'Q's not the blade one

and my one (bought a year before my brothers) is very different
mine has a grayish coloured plastic handle and is rectangular in cross section wheras my brothers is a pure black and the handle cross section is kinda diamond shaped

anyway
i was wondering if anyone knows what kinda steel the blade on a q is

Hi guys-
Ok a little info on the handles. The "fat" ones without logo are from the first design of the Q the second was a "fat" handle but with spyderco logo in middle an d3rd evo was the thinner handled one. I learned that from a VIP at spyderco myself when I took a tour there about a year ago. Hope this helps.

G'day Merlinn_82 (I work for an Aussie, orig. from Victoria) you got my curiousity going, and I just happen to have my "Q" S/E with me today. So I decided to take it apart, to see if there was any markings on it. There is not! So any one else thinking of this don't worry. It is a good excuse to clean it any way. The shop I bought it in had a P/E too, I saw in another thread that these may be slightly rare. I'm thinking of checking to see if it's still there. Paid fifty bux US for it. I was just going through my Spyderco booklet the other night. Can't remember the blade material though.

My mate hy has my copy of the "Spyderco Story" at the moment. If he reads this I hope he'll check on the Q's blade steel for you.

About the steel, I just checked an old catalog I had in a box here, and _it is_ 440C steel and fiberglass handles. I have no idea if the PlainEdge is rare, but it sure is a nice knife. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

I've got a 'Q' question. I don't have a 'Q' and I've always wondered, "Is it hard to spread peanut butter with a 'Q'?"

Calypso, well, spreading peanut butter as many times as you asked may actually be hard if you put an excess on the blade. Try spreading at the most twice, just to conver up the cut-outs enough to make it hold, LMAO!
