Which locking style do you prefer?

#1

Post by Rhino »

I'm curious as to what locking mechanism do people prefer here for a knife used primarily for defense? What about pros and cons of some popular styles such as the linerlock, lockback, compression, axis, etc?

I personally prefer Michael Walker's linerlock. It's the most common one I think....could be wrong. I like the AXIS on large folders like SOG's smaller pentagon elite. But I'm also comfortable with a lockback. I think it's known as a compression. I'm not to familiar with the technical names of some of these locks. I also like all balisongs, for I've practiced with most available balisong types and they're locks using one handed openings. of course. I own three balisongs: a titanium BM, a Bear MGC Damascus tanto (found it in a store by chance), and a beaten up stainless steel that a very good friend gave me as a gift. Who's you're FAV knifemaker, if any & why?

Compression. Simple, smooth and strong.

Fixed blade
If folding is absolutely inevitable then:
1) Compression
2) Axis
3) Monolock (like Benchmade Pinnacle)
4) Strong back lock (like Chinook)
5) Spyderco made linerlock

Yeah personally a solid fixed blade with tang running all the way up the handle like the Gerber Mark II's

Otherwise my fav is a strong lockback like my chins, then the compression for strength and then the liner lock.

seeya guys
