Carrying my Yojimbo

#1

Post by flyer35 »

As soon as I got this knife I fell in love with it,but I couldn't figure out how to carry it. My pockets were out of the question, right front pocket carries my Delica, change and keys normally. Left front pocket carries my wallet. Right rear pocket usually has a pocket holster with a small auto in it. Left rear was no good as I'm not left handed and it usually has a small flashlight in it. I was messing around with IWB carry today and I think I found the perfect solution. I've been carrying it at about an 11 o'clock position, angled so it doesnt dig into me while sitting. It also conceals it extremely well, with my shirt tucked in and bloused a little it totally disappears except a tiny bit of the clip showing. Here are a couple pics. Sorry about the poor quality. The pic with the red circle is showing what little of the clip shows.

Cool! I like how the yojimbo's butt of the handle looks inconspicuous when clipped, like a pen or something at first glance.

Man, just take care so it doesnt open by accident during such a carry, `cause you`re going to slice yourself in pieces!

Yeah, that is my only concern. The Yo could accidentally work its way open! :D Glad you have a Yo! Enjoy, it is one of my all-time favorites! :D

I will reiterate the other forumites' caution - PLEASE use caution in carrying IWB. The Yojimbo, more than most other Spyderco knives, is notorious for opening without notice (I carry a 1½" Spyder-bite to attest to this fact). I might even suggest tightening the pivot a bit to prevent accidental opening.

Don't say you weren't warned... :D

Hmmm, I never thought of that! I might have to rethink my carry options. Thanks for the heads up.

:spyder: As much as I love it, I need a pocket seam for retention and ease of mind when carrying my yoji. Any easily flickable spydie really. :spyder:

I would not hesitate to carry it in that manner as long as its blade feels secure in the closed position. If it does not, a little tightening of the pivot should do the trick.

I've been carrying a Mini-Grip in this exact position for more than two years. I did have a SOG Flash II open on me once (didn't get hurt, though) when carried this way.

The main reason I use a Mini Grip is because I put a Pika low-ride clip on it and you can't see it at all. It's pretty easy to pull out with the grips on the Grip. None of my Spydies are comfortable in this position.

It's a great way to carry for the right knife.
