Jeff's Wegner week
Jeff's Wegner week
Folks,
Wegner week - part one: Yesterday I finally connected with the Whitetail I've been pursuing for several days afield, and got to try out my new Wegner C48 as a field dressing tool. I can only think of one perfect word to describe it's usefulness and function. Superb.
It is, quite simply the best working knife for this task I've ever tried. Not only that, but as a folder it was much less in the way while hunting than my usual dangling fixed blade, flopping around on my belt getting caught on brush and so on. I caried the Wegner in a compact, secure Gerber nylon sheath that I had. No kidding about the knife's performance. This is compared to my previous experience with Game Skinner's, Buck fixed blades, Cold Steel master hunter, etc. I did choose to use a bigger knife to chop through the "Y" bone, so as not to abuse the C48. After dressing that deer, the edge remains such that I can still shave my forearm easily with the knife.
Wegner week - Part two: Upon returning to work today I found awaiting me a package containing my new Wegner Jr. plain edge. Wow! I'm in heaven. What a great little knife it is. All the beauty and stylish grace of the large Wegner, with the low key advantage of a smaller design.
Long live the Wegner. I know it's now discontinued, but long live this knife in our hearts and our collections.
Respectfully, Jeff/1911.
I've included a picture of Chinook's two Wegner's as I have not yet had a chance to take any of my own. Anyway, this is what they look like together. Thanks for the image Chinook.

Jeff,
Wonderful, now that's a pair to have. Wegner designs are made to go a long way, I have noticed. They are very attractive knives, as well.
Kahz
- strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

Way ta go Jeff !!!
Venison this winter, eh?
I had to bring those two out and "ka-chunk" them again. They have a solid, solitary feel and sound on opening that no other Spydie has.
Congrats on both your hunt and your new Jr Wegner. Memories are made of this.

Durden,
I'll be having a good thought for you. Saskatchewan's got some of the nicest, biggest Whitetails in the known universe.
Good luck, Jeff.
ps - Do you think that the price shown on the Cutting Edge Cutlery's website of $89.50 for a G-10 Harpy is correct? Just wondering if you happen to know, as I recall you shop there.

C08GS Harpy G10 Serrated 89.50
C08S Harpy S.S. Serrated 124.00
C08SBK Merlin Zytel Serrated 89.99
That's what the site says... don't recall seeing a g-10 one on thursday, but I wasn't spydie-shopping that trip...
We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare...

Jeff... VM??? VW is correct, only the other corner of the keyboard though.
I was in yesterday and today for a bit. The harpy is sold out for the moment, and the g-10 price is wrong. They have a small prob with the site and are trying to fix it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
