Cuts..*ouch*

What is the worst cut you ever received accidentally from a Spydie, like a slip of the knife, closing on your finger, and so on. The worst I have had is closing on my finger, I didn't think it was deep because it looked like a paper cut, but when I "pulled" it open with my fingers some blood just started oozing out, turned out it was deep after all <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> Nothing a couple Band-Aids couldn't fix <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>





BTW it was my Merlin plain edge.

Hmmm, my worst cut from a Spyderco was with my first Endura that I bought about 10 years ago when they first came out. It was my first one handed opener, and a very cool knife to play with. I was closing it with both hands and the blade got away from me and cut my finger on the other hand nearly to the bone. It did that cause I flinched when the blade got away from the one hand, and I changed my grip on the knife.

I do know that I have not cut myself like that again, the knives I get cut with nowadays are those **** assisted openers from Kershaw and Timberline <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

The only Spyder bite I have had was on the day my Civilian arrived.
I had just done a long stint in the office so I had been using my Delica just about exclusivly for a couple of months. Probably like most people I close my lock-back folders by pressing the lock release, giving the wrist a short sharp flick and letting the blade flip over so the non-sharp portion comes to rest on my forefinger.

I'm already late for work, but can't resist opening my newly arrived knife. Realising that I am now even later for work, I close the Civilian in the usual manner, only too late realising that the Civilian is a LOT bigger than my well used Delica, and that to close it properly my hand would need to be further up the handle. Needless to say the non-sharpened portion missed completly and I got a finger full of serrations.
Like you I didn't appreciate how deep the cut was until I flexed the finger.

Since then whenever I change my daily carry I open and close it a couple times before leaving the house and have not been so inattentive, even when in a hurry.

When I got my 2nd rescue I was playing around, of course, and had one in each hand. I was swinging both around in front of the mirror trying to scare myself or somthing and I hooked my right arm with the new (sharp) spide. Wow, I can see into my arm! No blood for 2-3 minutes! Then lots of blood. Really should have had stiches, but I felt too stupid to go to the ER. I have a nice little scare to remind my self how dumb I really am <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

My Grey Martriach snapped on my middle finger.. And BOY! Those Spyderedge really mean business! <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> Had lots of tiny cuts but its too negligable to kick up any fuss.. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

I had the same thing happen to me, but it was my pointer finger. My Grey Matriarch closed right on the top of the knuckle. The only thing that stopped it was the bone. It hurt real bad <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> and was painful for weeks after that. I bandaged the finger straight and after it was healed I couldn't close my finger all the way and I could feel that the inside of my finger was still healing. It is finally healed now, but I am much more careful (especially with the Grey Matriarch)!!!

I agree with you guys. Those Matriarchs are incredibly sharp! I haven't been cut with mine yet, but I'm working on it! My worst Spydie cut was with a Dyad Mini. I put that clip point blade right into my thumb. That smarted for a while. My worst non spydie cut was with a Mini AFCK. I was sharpening with a Lansky and I stabben my left hand in the web part between my pointer and middle finger. Deep too. That was the MOST painful cut I've ever ever recieved by far, and I've cut myself a number of times.

my spydies just about all got thier bites in...
*got the delica and was testing out the one hand close... right on the pinky, stopped on the nail... but not after cutting all the flesh 1/4" back from it.
*Cricket, not familiar with linerlocks... closed blade to 90degrees, and lifted thumb up... right into the serrations, slicing the side of the thumb nicely.
*ladybug, opening bags of mayo at work, was asked a question, and looked away. Jabbed my thumb with the ladybug, with the newly ground tanto-tip on it...
*dragonfly, this last weekend... slicing boxes, and rotated the knife wrong in the box. had the edge, instead of the spine, clip my left middlefinger(don't ask me how it got in the way), only a small slit, but tender.

Yesterday... I was playing the the LCC D/A, and had my finger in the wrong spot. It opened, but somehow I got a gouge in the thumb knuckle. about 1/4"x1/8" and not too deep(bone stopped it). Wrapped it up at 7am, then went bowling last night, hurt like ****...

Worst overall:
"testing the edge" with my nieghbor... hold a tree limb(still attached to tree), and the other one slices down... Mine went through nicely, his on the otherhand wasn't lined up right, and slid down the limb into my index finger(right hand)... 1.5" cut, white inside... still don't have full movement back, and that was 3 yrs ago... stupid mistakes always hurt more...

We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare...

My worst cut with a Spydie was last spring. It was about 2 or 3 in the morning and I was getting a bit tired, but was still trying to get things done. I had to cut something, don't remember what it was now, but my Viele slipped and ran all the way down my left index finger. I got the bleeding stopped, and decided it would be a pretty good idea to go to bed. I still have a nice little scar to remind me to be more careful. Funny how I have so many of those reminders... guess I'm either a slow learner, or I only remember to be careful with the particular knife that cut me

i cut the base of ma palm on the harpy bein stupid and carving some wood, and nicked my fingers once or twice sharpening it (again being dumb) nothing serious tho

Hello folks..Newbie here once more.. as I mentioned in another topic i just bought my first Spyderco three days ago.. a plain edge SS Delica.. and I am so amazed at how good the knife feels i cant put it down. IT is still very 'tight' and ive used that as justification to play with it even more.. gotta losen up the action ya know?? well.. SOMEHOW.. my hand slipped a little on the handle sending the point into my thumb...let me tell ya.. those little knives have needle sharp points! well mind did untill ... i was holding the blade/hole between my index finger and thumb snapping the handle down into my hand and it slipped...the knife went point down into a cement floor covered by carpet!! <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> but guess what.. the **** thing actually penetrated the floor enough to remain upright, and it only slightly blunted the point!! like i said before.. IM SOLD..

The worst cut I received from a Spyder was really stupid. I was shaving with my SS serrated Police when I slipped, fell down, and accidentally cut my head off. Boy did I feel foolish. There I was starring at my headless body on the bathroom floor. It didn’t start to bleed right away, but when it did, boy! What a mess. The knife was so sharp, I didn’t even feel it. I didn’t think it was that bad until it started bleeding, then my plans for simply BandAiding it back on fell apart. Arterial spray everywhere. Well, luckily I live pretty close to a hospital so I picked up my head and ran to the car wearing only a towel, my head tucked under my left arm like I was running with a football. Anyway, as I was driving to the hospital with my head on the dashboard so I could see, the blood gushing from my neck was squirting on the inside of the windshield making it really hard to see out. I had to grab my head with my left hand and hold it out the side window. Thankfully my hair is long enough that I had something good to hang on to but it sure hurt and the wind blowing my head back and forth and banging it into the door wasn’t too pleasant either. I few other drivers kind of freaked out when they saw me coming, but the worst of it was the wind in my eyes. Well, I made it to the hospital and had my head stitched back on. It didn’t start to hurt until about a day later.
Well, that’s the worst cut I’ve ever had.

No interesting cut stories here, just the plain old slice of the finger while playing with knives... but I did survive a rattlesnake bite, so there!
