Native question
I was looking at getting a FRN 440v native. Are there any differences between the 440v models that have a stainless clip and the black clip? Do the newer models have the boye dent in the locking bar or is that yet to be added. Thanks.

Hello firediver, and welcome!
I recently purchased a serrated Native FRN. From what I understand, the newer FRN Natives have the black clip while some of the older ones had the stainless. The difference? Just color. The black one doesn't stand out as much against a dark pair of slacks.
My Native was supposedly just received from the factory and it does not have the Boye dent on the compression lock. In looking through the Spyderco on-line catalog, I do not see any reference to a Boye dent on the Native description so I would assume it has not been incorporated as of yet. (Veteran Forumites, please correct me if I am mistaken)
I can say, however, that my VG-10 Endura FRN that I just received has the Boye dent and it makes a big difference. At first it took some getting used to but after a while, it was second nature.
In all, my Native has quickly become my everyday carry. Handling characteristics are tops and the blade is awesome! Not too big, not too small, just right.
Best wishes in your quest for your Native Spydie. Fair warning, once you've been bit by the Spydie bug, there's no turning back! You'll just want another, and another, and another....
"Hope for the best. Be prepared for the worst. You'll never be disappointed."

I've thought about adding the Boye dent to my Native, but I think that should be left up to the experts in Golden.
Besides, it'll just give me another excuse to go get another Spydie when they become available!
Then again, who needs an excuse?

I just got my FRN native and it has the dent altough I must say that I would have peferred that it did not.It may be because it is not broke in yet but it seems that you have to push the lever down alot to get it to release----forget what i just wrote I just tried it left handed and it worked fine I have a 90% healed cut on the inner side of my right thumb that is giving me the problem[still tender].I would also say that it is the only FRN version that i like better than the SS version.
