A Waved Yo!!!

#1

Post by stonyman »

I just saw this picture over on bf. The You is my current favorite Spyderco. I also started a thread over on the off-topic section on how effective I believe the wave feature is. As much as I like the Yo as is, I always wondered what a wave would do for my beloved Yo! Anyway here is the link: http//www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46882. View the picture and let me know what you think! I do not know the maker, but I know.........STR! Take care all and God Bless!

P.S. If one of you know an easier way to link to that topic/picture, feel free to throw it up!

I like the modification!

When it is pulled, is it presented in a Pkal or a reverse grip?

Grip would be normal grips...hammer or saber... :D

It looks like the blade and clip have been bead blasted as well. That is a slick looking mod.

I dig that a lot, might have my pal who's a wizard with a Dremel make the mod for me.

Here's a question. If I do this to the blade of my Yo, does that void the warranty for the whole knife? I'd understand that Spyderco wouldn't honour the warranty on the blade itself, as a case could be made that the mod weakened it; but say the pivot proved faulty, do you think that the warranty would still hold?

If you put that Yo in your back left pocket you could come up with it in Pikal (reverse grip) or if positioned in the middle of the front pocket you could do a reverse grab and twist it forward into pikal grip on the draw (the second method is not to my liking with the Yo as the Yo has a tendency when the back of the blade is not butted up against the corner of the pocket...it can open inside the pocket...exposing the tip...you never want to reach with a hand in such a pocket unless you want to run the risk of losing a finger should the Yo slightly open up)...If you want a Pikal grip use the back pocket if it has a wave....Doc :D

Isn't Steve doing great things with knives? I like his wave variation more than the original one. :)

My Santa Fe Stoneworks Kiwis, for example, are warranted by SFSW, not Spyderco, as are all their customized knives.

Thanks, Deacon: very likely quite correct. I guess I'm more specifically wondering whether Spyderco will overlook modifications clearly unrelated to a failure in another part of a knife when deciding whether or not to provide service. My feeling is that they probably would, as they seem to approach things from a common-sense standpoint.
