Low Yojimbo Prices - What's Up With That?
I don't own a Yojimbo (yet) so have been looking around for a good price and I am noticing that blue Yojimbos are selling in some instances $20 below wholesale. I am often finding them in "closeout" sections. What's the story here? Are we on the cusp of Yojimbos leaving the marketplace? Will this be the "must have" knife of 2010? Or is there some other explanation for these unusually low prices on a high quality knife?

i predict that the yojimbo is destined to become the gunting of the future... maybe 2010, we'll see... :D
it's a common occurance... knives that don't "click" with the general population left over in inventories after being discontinued, and then sitting there unsold until the price drops to something that astonishes the afi's. then years later when this stock depletes -- sometimes only one or two years -- the prices comes back up as collectors hunt them out.
right now, the SS ATR and karambit are selling for prices equally shocking... especially on ebay.
something to think about... i think only two or three years ago, i remember john f. jensen had 26 green lum chinese folders, SE but numbered, sitting in his stock for a price of $110, going unsold for MONTHS. just try to find a NIB numbered lum chinese for $110 now!!!!
i remember him also having the G-10 centofantes, the ayoob, a shabaria... lots of knives now considered "classic."
that's just the way it goes... what doesn't succeed in the marketplace today becomes tomorrow's hot collectable.

It's for much the same reason as why the Black Dodos are harder to get than the Blue ones.
Blue G10 isn't as popular as Black G10 for some reason.
Since Spydies are generally a little on the different side, it seems a little odd that people tend to favor the tried and tested colors, but to each their own.
