Sal,
Any chance the sprint version will be non-laminated ? Also, when do you think the CF/ZDP Caly 3's will be available from the dealers ?

Thanks.

Well, I guess maybe there is no clip on the other side on Paul's knife.

Congrats! What a lucky man you are :D

Congratulations Paul. You are lucky man and I am happy for you. May be one day your dream come true and we will see clipless damascus :spyder:

My turn to be in awe, both of Sal's amazing generosity, and this knife.

ImageImageImageImageImageImage

It has been living in my pocket since it arrived. At least when it's not being used, or posing for pictures.

Thank you Sal, rest assured that it will be both treasured and used!
Congrats to you Paul, and kudos to Sal for being so generous!

I personally don't mind the boyle dent, it's nice when one is wearing gloves.

But I agree that it can break an otherwise fluid design, the lack of it kinda makes it a little easier on the eyes.

How do you like the CF?

Another vote for FRN

CF ZDP Caly 3 is definitely on my must have list but...
My dream Caly 3:

FRN with fish scales (Burgundy)
Wire Clip
ZDP 189
Any lock that is well made is OK with me

A note on screws or rivets. I see screws for tinkerers and rivets for users. If I was stuck in the "sand box" rivets would be my choice. It's kind of hard to lose a rivet and it would not be real convenient to carry around a set of tools just to tighten up my knife. I know some people will say they need to disassemble their knife for cleaning but I've never met a Spyderco that couldn't be cleaned by running it under water.

I Love this place! :)

I cannot tell a lie. It had just arrived minutes before when those pictures were taken and the clip was still on the "wrong" side. Half an hour later, I moved over to the "correct" side. ]Image

Then I took it off altogether an hour after that. :o

Image

Which is how it will stay. Someone else likes it too...

Knife photography is not as easy as it use to be.

Axlis, of all the CF I've seen this is the one that appeals to me the most. The shiny always makes me think of those tabletops with all the pennies embedded in resin that were all the rage in bars 40 years ago, and the peel-ply could do double duty as a wood rasp. This isn't slippery, but isn't rough either. Haven't tried it with greasy hands yet, but can tell you it stays put when they're wet.

Just got my caly3 two weeks ago. Everyone that I have shown it to is really impressed! (me too) I didn't know if I was going to like the wire clip, but it works great and hides it from the sheeple well. Having it tip-up has been a long awaited change. I like that the g10 is extremely grippy, but also like the fact that I can always change that if I feel it needs it. Sal, I thought with this really smooth action, there had to be pb washers! Heck, this opens better than 80% of my liner locks. Bravo Zulu and thanks, Boats

That's way cool of Sal to do that. I honestly can't think of a time where something like this has happened (that I've noticed) before. I am curious though, for the lockbacks with the Boye dents, we don't have as much distance to push down the lock bar to disengage the lock and for the ones without it there's a longer distance. If Sal didn't add the Boye dent, did he adjust it so that you still have to push the lock bar down all the way to disengage it? If not, you'd only have to push the bar down about half way before it would disengage.

Before I saw those pictures, I was not against using a laminated blade. Now that I've seen the picturess, I'm glad I'll be getting one! The way the line curves is just beautiful. It almost looks like a hamon. I suppose I'll jump on the bandwagon and ask, WHEN? :p
Ask me where I got my awesome SUPERHAWK!

Thanks Brian. Technically, it's "one of a pair", since Sal's note mentioned that there is one other, destined for the Spyderco museum. :)

Yes it was. But, not to diminish it in any way, it's far from the first time when Sal has done something "special" for someone.

As far as the lockbar goes, it does not have to be fully depressed to release the blade. That suits me just fine, since it make it a bit easier to release when I want to close the knife. It also makes cleaning the knife under running water a bit more effective. I can tell you that I was fooling around with it last night, trying to disengage the lock and in any grip I'd even consider using, I had to squeeze with all my might just to induce a bit of vertical play. I would imagine if Spyderco were going to make the production version "undented", they'd probably cut the notch in the handle a bit shallower.

Wow, congratulations. That Caly3 is fantastic. Enjoy it.

My Caly3 and Mini-Manix are my favorites. Would love both with CF scales.

Paul...

Wow! That is a beautiful - and functional knife. I bought a G-10 Caly 3 and except for maybe two or three days (when it was replaced by my CF Millie) it hasn't left my pocket. This one finally knocked my Native out of its place as my main EDC.

I will admit to a little bit of envy - I am not fond of the boye dent - but not enough not to buy one of the CF Caly 3's when then hit New Graham.

The Calypso models look so much better without the boye dent.
