BM Lum

Post by HoB »

Have you guys seen that one.....mmmh.....another one of those where the blade has an uncanny resemblence of a Spyderco, and not just because of the hole. Sal said that there is an agreement, so don't derail this thread, ok? ;)

Still, agreement or not....it just doesn't feel....right. :(

Though the Lum Chinese folders look classy, they're not quite my style. I really like the Lum tantos. I'm not a fan of any of the new BMs except for the 14205. I like the new Grip, but for now, I'm going to hold off on getting any of the BM models with holes in them. All in all, nice folder, not my style.

I kind of like the looks of the BM Lum. I also like the S30V steel. I am not sure that I like the Liner Lock though and would have to hold it to know if I like the handle. I do like the blade.

With all due respect, I would have expected better from Bob Lum. :(

Well, it's not all his design, is it? The Chinese folder was a production version of one of his customs, and I don't see any of his custom folders that look exactly like the BenchMade offering. I agree that, for a Lum, it does lack the usual elegance, but I think it can be chalked up to, "too many cooks".

Basically only thing making it worth considering is nearly 4" blade (and no ricasso Image)

However I don't like the grooves in G10 near back of the handle

And if the locking liner isn't atleast as thick as in (BM) Gravitator it isn't good news either.

I like the 14205 much better

I like the knife, but I will pass on BM and buy a spydie instead.
I think Bob Lum could make this collab better with "the knife company where the hole belongs.." :D

My disappointment is with his decision to have his name associated with a Benchmade knife that uses a spyderhole opener. I have no interest at all in the knife beyond that.

Bob already makes that knife as one of his custom designs. It's called the all rounder. It's not new. I ordered one a year ago from him in lefty. This is Bob's design and he has permission to use the hole.

I like the design, it looks like a very utilitarian piece. I just wish it wasn't a liner lock, and that the blade was just a little shorter. I like the fact that it uses the Spyderhole without adding any humps to the blade.

 A Beautiful knife for sure!
Good work Mr. Lum and Benchmade.
Ofcourse also thanks to :spyder: for the hole,
this one does look better with a hole than with an thumbstud.
Even though the original earlier Bob Lum I believe had a thumbstud.

I also think that Spyderso should also try to design folders where the hole does not add too much on the back of the blade ! Most other makers that are allowed holes don't! The Walker was a good one!

I know I've said this before......if I never saw a reason to buy a BM (the name is reason enough for a Beavis and Butthead moment :D ) before because I don't like thumbstuds  , I can't see a reason to buy an ersatz wannabe Spydie now.
