A very random, irrelevant question...

But still, I noticed this and was wondering:

Is there a reason Spyderco made these knives different?? The Left Handed Carbon Fiber Civilian (below) is flush with screws in the handle.

As you can see here.. on the Right Handed model, there is only one screw.. and the rest are rivots/pins.

Anyone know if there's a reason behind this? I just kinda noticed it.. and was curious. It didn't seem like the CF Delica or CF Police models were different in this way. Does this change the collector value at all?? Eh.. just something to ponder.

Good question.

Since it's a lockback, I'd guess the RH Civvie has a screw to hold the locking bar in place so that users can alter the amount of force required to push the locking bar down (at the expense of the washers wearing out faster). But then why not do that with other models, or do it with just this one? Bear in mind that this is just a completely random guess.

Not sure what the story on them is. All I can tell you for sure is that it's not the orientation or the edge type. I have two LH PE CF Civilians, one is all screw construction, the other a mix of screws (lockbar and blade pivot) and pins (backspacer) like your RH one. It may be that the change to mixed construction occured somewhere in the midst of the production run, since my "all screw" one has a CC# and the "mixed" one is not, but speculations and assumptions based on such limited data are not terribly reliable. Even if true, it only explains the "when", not the "why" of the change.

Your question escapes me, as I am altogether too jealous of your left handed civilian to care. :p :p

haha.. I wish those were mine!!! The LH is from Mr. Paul Beretta's(sp?) webpage!! The second is just a photo I found online. I've been trying to locate some. Now that I think of it.. I read somewhere that they were making a limited number, and then the decision was made to make some more. Possibly the additional knives came without numbers and less screws..?? I prefer the screws.. they give the knives a great look. I'm thinkin' that's what it is..

Thanks for all the input guys :) One day I will get them CF's
