I'll take that challenge....

1. Chinook 3
2. Yojimbo
3. Ronin
4. Civilian
5. Matriarch
6. Lil Temp
7. Waved Endura
8. Karambit
9. Military
10. Manix

Honorable mention: Dodo, Lava.

These aren't in any particular order. I think some of the smaller ones (Lava, Dodo, etc) would be great paired with a larger heavy-hitter (Chinook, Civilian, etc).

Boy, I know somebody is just gonna lay into me for one or two of the knives I listed though  !

Ok...

1) Perrin
2) Temperance
3) Street Beat
4) Ronin
5) Yojimbo
6) Civvie/Matriarch (distinction between the two is trivial for me)
7) Massad Ayoob
8) Gunting
9) Chinook
10) Lil' Temp

And honourable mentions for: Millie (and Para), Manix (and Mini-Manix), Spyderhawk (and Harpy, for that matter), Karambit, SPOT (and Swick), and Lava.

P'Kal would fit in the top 10, but it's not out yet, so I've decided not to put it in.

I only own 3 spydies but I'm curious why the ATR serrated didn't make any of these lists..? As an uneducated new to knives guy it seems to me it has it all.. serrated like the civvie and pointy.. maybe it is the lack of grip on the Ti or SS handle.

1) Yojimbo
2) Civilian
3) Kerambit
4) Kumo

How About "Top 5" ???

#10

Post by Steel Vader »

I decided to limit my list to knives meeting certain criteria:

1. Must be a folder, as fixed-blade carry is illegal in many places.
2. Must have a blade length 3 inches or less (again for legal reasons).
3. Must be reasonably available (not a hard to find grail knife).
4. Must have G-10 (preferable) or FRN handles for grip -- no SS.

With these criteria, I come up with only five knives (one of which is a Byrd), ranked in order of effectiveness (as perceived by me):

1. Yojimbo
2. Delica Wave
3. Caly3
4. Meadowlark G-10 (poor man's Caly3 / Delica) ...
design also perfect for a Dremel Wave!
5. Tasman

1. Kiwi
2. Cricket
3. Ladybug
4. Jester
5. Mouse
6. Dragonfly
7. Dodo
8. Salsa
9. Lava
10.Ladybug II

I'm using Spydercos do defend myself against vicious apples, cardboard boxes and letters :D
I have decided not to carry knives for SD anymore but if I did I would probably go with a Delica3 \ Endura3 - I like the sharp tips and I find them to have a good grip, great ease of handling and most importantly, I'm very used to them.

Great topic! Assuming we can't include models yet to come, like the P'Kal, here's mine, in order of preference:

Fixed:

Temperance
Kumo
Perrin (original model)
Perrin Street Beat

Folder:

Waved Delica 4
Waved Endura 4
Waved Endura 3 (SDF model)
Chinook
Yojimbo

And finally, my own modified Police:

Four way clip mod and lanyard hole by Chase Axxin, with wave and low-rider clip by STR (who also made the photo).

Draws into Pikal perfectly. I'm so proud of this little puppy, I just had to include it.

No particular order:

G-10 Police (better if modified to tip up carry)
Yojimbo (if not for Doc, I would still consider this to be a oversized boxknife)
Waved Endura/Delica (not enough difference to separate)
Chinook (all models)
Civilian/Matriarch (no difference)
Temperance
Gunting
Dodo
Ayoob
All non SS handled Hawkbills

Honorable mention: Military, Renegade, non-waved Endura/Delica, Lava
Been packing at least two Spyderco knives a day since 1984
