"Must have" features?

Post by catamount »

What are your "must have" features on a folding :spyder: ?

Mine:

lefty friendly lock (mid/front, possibly compression)
tip-up ambi clip
VG-10, H-1 or ZDP-189 (until something even better comes along ;) )

Others that I value highly:

fine jimping (spine and finger choil)
finger choil
full flat grind

Well, Tom, you did say in a Spyderco so maybe this is implied but:

Pocket clip (wire prefered)
Spydie hole (larger is better)

in addition to those you listed (well, okay, the leftie stuff doesn't impact me).

My preferences are;

Pocket clip, preferably deep carry / dark finish for easy consealment

Large Spydie hole

Part serrated

Tip up carry

Finger choil

Non-metallic scales

Boyle dent if it is a standard lockback, other lock type are fine

Basically- utillity rules!

My current EDC is a Endura 3. Would love to see a para that would meet the above criteria. :)

1) no teeth
2) no clip (at least removable)
3) no open back - I want full spacer
4) ATS34, VG10, S30V, ZDP or tough carbon steel
5) Zero blade play in any direction

Drop it in pocket and go!

For it to wind up in my pocket on a regular basis, the "must haves" would be a front lock, because it is the only one that is both lefty and arthritic friendly, 50/50 choil, a round hole opener, and a plain edged straight or simple convex curved blade.

Like you Tom, I value fine jimping on the ramp and choil, and full flat ground blades, and I also value bolster and scale construction.

Ambidextrous clip (tip-up preferred)
Reliable lefty-friendly lock (front-lock, mid-lock, compression lock)
Spyderco branding

It must look exactly like a SS Pro-Venator, ATS-55, 40/60 Plain/serrated combination edge. Thats all.
